Treat

Treats and indulgences can take many forms. Share yours with us!

Halloween is this weekend and, in the United States and many other countries, children have the tradition of going door-to-door in costumes, pleading, “Trick or treat!” to celebrate. Their reward is a bucket full of sweets at the end of the night, which most parents try to ration out bits at a time over the next several weeks or months (and occasionally sneak a favorite nibble for themselves!).

This week’s photo challenge theme is “Treat,” an intentionally open-ended prompt. For many, candies aren’t a favorite indulgence. Maybe you’re a savory food lover, or you’ve gone on a beautiful vacation to treat yourself. Perhaps some quiet time alone with a beloved novel is your greatest pleasure. This week, share with us a photo of something that you consider a marvelous treat.

In the photo I’ve shared, one of my dogs is indulging in her life’s greatest pleasure: stealing food that my children have left unattended. This time, it was my middle daughter’s first birthday cake. I had my camera in my hands at just the right moment, and caught her in the act. She doesn’t usually score such a tasty prize.

  1. Each Hallowe’en I experience a visual treat in the form of a display set up around the corner by my son-in-law. At night its red lights make it ghoulish. I receive many treats in the form of comments from people who like or are intimated by the eeriesque scene in his front yard.
