This week, share a symbol with us, and tell us what it means to you.
Symbolism is uniquely human. We use symbols to represent intangible things like our beliefs and emotions, and to convert the abstract into something understandable. We may also use symbols to simplify and convey information.
Photography is often the same; an image illustrates a single moment in time, or captures an object in perpetuity. Much like symbols, photographs, too, may conjure vivid memories and mean a wide range of things to different people.

An image of symbolic jewelry, by Jen Hooks.
This week, share a symbol with us. In my image, the engagement ring symbolizes an intended commitment of two people to one another. Your subject does not have to be as literal of an interpretation; you can choose something that is uniquely symbolic and relevant to you, and share the story behind it.
So true. I am a great believer in symbols, not just objects or images but acts such as marriage, christening etc. So many people say that these are irrelevant and that they don’t believe in God or aren’t Christians, but you don’t need to be. These celebrations are symbolic markers, something to look back on, to remember and enjoy when things are tough.

Could it be true that a symbol is a commonplace abbreviation of our diverging interpretations about the world? Or is it a mysterious signal which might be lucid with some particular people but entirely obtuse with the rest? In my opinion, a symbol is a light house which guide we through the mist of time to the land of forgotten memories.
