This week, share a picture that takes us on a journey into the unknown.
Taking a photo is an invitation to explore the world around us as if it were new and mysterious. My favorite shots are always the ones that reveal something — a detail, an angle — I’d previously overlooked. They’re the ones that turn the familiar slightly (or very) alien.
On a recent cold, bright morning, I went strolling on the beach with my kids. Shells, seagulls, dogs running around — everything seemed like it always does. And then I looked down.
At low tide, this stretch of beach on British Columbia’s Strait of Georgia looked like it could easily be mistaken for a place in a galaxy far, far away. The undulating ridges of wet sand stretched far and wide, with the light casting dramatic shadows despite these lines being barely a couple of centimeters tall. For a brief moment, we were explorers on an uncharted planet (or perhaps we were the aliens?).
This week, share a photo that takes a familiar scene — a place you frequent, a face you know well, an activity you engage in regularly — and makes it look and feel like something out of this world. Feel free to interpret the theme as loosely as you see fit. I look forward to seeing your photos!
