Rows, stacks, columns: this week, share an image that sends chaos packing (neatly).
As a naturally messy person, I find myself drawn to neat, tidy objects and spaces. Sure, it’s fun to celebrate chaos every once in a while. But it’s others’ visions of order and harmony, from colonnades to geometric patterns on tiles, that most often intrigue me (and, by extension, my camera). You can imagine, then, how thrilling it was to stumble upon this pastry display a few weeks ago. (Yes, I also have a notorious sweet tooth, but it wasn’t just that — I swear on the cookie I’m currently enjoying.)
Baking is by definition an activity for those of us obsessed with nitpicking and tweaking; this, though — dozens of éclairs, identically sized and spaced, decorated with military precision — elevated “order” to a different, sublime sphere. Whoever pulled this off should never come over for a visit, I thought: they’d faint as soon as they’d set foot in my kitchen.
This week, share your take on order, whether literal, figurative, or anything in between (and sure — showing it next to a healthy dose of messiness is fine, too). From library stacks to sock drawers and from ancient temples to modern train stations, let your inner disciplinarian take over.
I look forward to seeing your photos!
What a delicious picture. I’d like to start with the left row and see how far I will get. 🙂

I had never had a compulsion for order until starting a family. Then amongst the chaos of kids paraphernalia I made it my mission to have order of the bookcase variety…. colour coding the spines and by height order. I can be meticulous!!! Much to my husband and now teenage sons delight. Nothing makes them giggle than changing things around and seeing me drawn to fix fix fix.

Thank you for the image and an interesting theme, Ben! I tend to look for the organic in photography, so it took a moment to seek for an opposite. Here is a compilation image: a dome window in Milan https://lehtman.wordpress.com/2017/06/08/order-does-chaos-disturb-or-inspire-you/ Wishing you & all a great end of the week!

Whenever I travel, I make it a point to visit the neighborhood market away from the usual tourist spots. It offers a glimpse of local life and the people living in it.
This is a picture that I took in Stockholm, Sweden. I marveled at the care and attention that the vendor was giving to his offerings, arranging them in a neat and orderly manner, making them more attractive to prospective buyers.

In a way, it could sum up my impressions of Sweden after visiting it for the first time last summer. The people are well-dressed, polite, modest, and law-abiding with a high sense of order and organization. While they’re open-minded, they also value their privacy and keep to themselves especially in the presence of strangers. As a borderline introvert, these are traits that I find endearing and feel comfortable with. Trust me, I’m going back to this beautiful country again.

Early in life, I was sure I was a messy person. I believe I still am, but there are instances where I feel the need to be organized (at work). I fully understand your passion for order. These goodies look fantastic. It reminds me of how I’m a bit OCD about eating skittles (or jellybeans or gummy-bears)- gotta sort them by color first before eating!
