On Top - Weekly Photo Challenge, photo by Sara Rosso

On top can be a feeling, a perspective, or a physical location.

I saw these pelicans in San Diego, and they sure saw me, too. Their sheer size when compared to the sea gull next to them is pretty striking, and their full wing span is impressive. I’m not sure how sharp their beaks are. The one on the left stared me down, and though I haven’t heard much about violent pelicans, I didn’t want to press my luck. I wouldn’t have been able to get as close to them if they hadn’t been on top of this beach shack close to some fisherman who were undoubtably helping the pelicans get dinner.

In a post created specifically for this challenge, share a photo that means On Top!

I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

      1. wow – cool that you mentioned this because watching a pelican “dive bomb” – is stunning and it is a wonder to watch! And this photo of pelicans “on top” of the roof is just cool – with the blue sky, a bit of preening going on – and then the ‘keep clear’ written in the lower left – 🙂

  1. I’m really excited for this week’s theme! As a mountaineer, there are a lot of moments that put me “on top” and I cannot wait to share them. I will post as soon as I can. In the meantime, I’m checking out some of the great submissions. Have fun everyone! And a good day to you all! 🙂
