This week, it’s all about landscape photography. Show us your best establishing shot, out in nature or in an urban setting.
By After roadtripping through Utah’s surreal geological landscape last year, I bought a US National Parks pass and vowed to explore more of North America’s parks. There’s just so much to see.
On a recent hike up Ryan Mountain in Joshua Tree National Park, I saw panoramic views of Southern California’s desert dotted with Joshua trees, rocky formations, and mountains far off in the distance:

For this week’s challenge, share a photo of a landscape: a wide establishing shot of a scene in nature or an urban setting. Landscape photography is typically displayed in a horizontal orientation; before getting started, read photographer Jeff Sinon’s tips on composition and finding the best shot.

Can a landscape be done using portrait orientation?

Generally, a landscape photograph is horizontally oriented.
The “portrait or landscape?” section in this post by Jeff Sinon might be of interest to you.
For this challenge, feel free to interpret as you’d like — if you feel your scene/setting is best captured vertically (and your viewer can still get a sense of the setting as a whole), go for it!
