We’ve been waiting on pins and needles until we could share the new gallery formats which were announced yesterday on the WordPress.com blog! So now that they’re out, let’s put them to good use! We’re going to have a multi-photo challenge!

Happy. I can’t believe we haven’t done this theme before! That alone makes me happy. But there are so many things which could make you happy, so why not group them together to multiply the happiness? Here are some images which make me happy: a sunny day, Mums for Mom, exercise, coffee (of course!), a Vespa by the sea, a popsicle, funny signs, and more coffee!

Share (many) pictures in a gallery which mean HAPPY to you!

I’m including all three new gallery formats just so you can see how they look – I think you should probably include only one in your post, but it’s up to you!  Which format is your favorite? I like rectangular, but circles are fun, too! Also, I think 6-9 photos are a good goal for this challenge (I’m using 9) and it shouldn’t take you much time at all to find 9 pictures of things that make you happy! Read the new gallery formats post for information about how to use them on your site.

New to The Daily Post? Whether you’re a beginner or a professional, you’re invited to get involved in our Weekly Photo Challenge to help you meet your blogging goals and give you another way to take part in Post a Day / Post a Week. Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

1. Each week, we’ll provide a theme for creative inspiration. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Friday when the next photo theme will be announced.

2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “Weekly Photo Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.

3. Subscribe to The Daily Post so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

  1. Maybe it is just me, but I have never used a gallery before, and I can not figure out how to turn it on. I go to the media button like the instructions say, but there is no option for a gallery.

    1. Not just you! I found the instructions completely befuddling as well. Hopefully someone will chime in with a more comprehensive “how to.”

      1. Did it in Picasa as I know it pretty well. One thing that is *really* cool about the WP gallery option is the captioning — that you can have titles/text appear when you hover over an individual image. I’m giving myself the weekend to figure it out because I really want to know how to use it!

      2. Joining in here. I was still working on the “Mine” challenge and it looks like they are closing comments a lot sooner than they used to. I went ahead and adapted it to the “Happy” theme. I’m going to play around with this as there is too much of a learning curve for me to devote any attention to it. Jeni, thanks so much for that link and all the other help.
        Peace,
        Alexandria

  2. I worked on the Challenge for last week “Mine”. Had it ready to post and alas, comments were already closed. Fortunately, it quickly adapted to this week’s “Happy”. So I am very happy! I want to play around with the galleries a bit. But I promise to and I know they will be great!

      1. It looks like there is a problem with the link — it shows up as http://(etc.) on your page, but when you click on the link, the : is removed. If you recopy the full URL, it should redirect properly, and show up in the pingback list below.

      2. Thanks for all the help! It finally showed up. However, it does appear that mine is the only one in a bright YELLOW. Is that how it appears to you and if so, how do I change that to match the rest. Oh well, at least it’s jumping out at you like it’s happy.
I sure appreciate all the help with this.

      1. Oh dear! Thank you so much for that information. I’ve always wondered. I thought for sure it was something I was doing, which is usually the case!
You’ve been a huge help. I sure appreciate you taking the time to help me.
