Evoke the excitement of entering a new year with a photo that shows growth.
“The important thing is somehow to begin.” — Henry Moore
This fall, I was surprised to find crocus bulbs sprouting in my front yard. Where I live, crocuses are typically a herald of Spring, so it was several months too early for them to be starting their life cycle. I admire their vigor, and hope they’ll thrive once the weather begins to warm again.
“Our growth depends not on how many experiences we devour, but on how many we digest.” — Ralph W. Sockman
In this first week of the year, many people anticipate beginnings, changes, and opportunities for growth. Share with us an image that evokes this spirit of change and newness — the smile of a new friend, a freshly planted garden, an empty journal waiting to be filled. Growth is very personal, and I encourage you to interpret this as literally or as broadly as you like. Happy New Year — we can’t wait to see your photos!
I’d love to be thinking of spring, but it’s so cold here that it’s impossible. I’m simply dreaming of temperatures (both real and with wind chill) that are above zero degrees Fahrenheit! Simple joys. 🙂

It has been in the single digits in my corner of Ohio — I’m ready for spring, too!

We lived in Ohio for many years, so I know how cold it can be! Illinois is pretty frigid right now as well, although we don’t have much snow.

Agreed. This theme and photo comes out of nowhere and doesn’t match what I see out my windows. Haha…

Well, this was taken in late November in Ohio, so it was definitely not spring!

Agreed. I wish I could walk outside without the wind/snow biting at my skin. Maybe then I could remember how spring will be here sooner than I think!

It was -22 here in Wisconsin! I hear ya on looking forward to warmer weather! Stay warm and I love your take on growth!

Thanks very much, Shelley. A few more days and here in northern Illinois it will be warmer–in the 20’s. I hope you get some of that as well.

Happy new year! While this theme was fine, I’d like to see more creative themes this 2018 year for WPC!

Those are nice! I’ve actually done a few of those, myself:

We try to make sure we don’t repeat challenges too soon after they’ve been done, and they need to have a relatively broad appeal, but we’ll see what we can do. 🙂

Thanks for listening, Jen! 🙂 I appreciate it. I love doing the challenges every week.

Loved the read and am looking at things differently in 2018! Also, it is kind of ironic in that I posted to my blog something similar. https://peacesbycortney.blog/2018/01/03/this-is-me-2018-resolution-theme/
