Companion. Yours may not be covered in fur like mine (AKA Chester J. Lampwick) but you have one — or more.

Show us!

You might think “companion” refers to a person with whom you share experiences, but the definition is much broader:

  • A person who is frequently in the company of, associates with, or accompanies another.
  • A mate or match for something.
  • A handbook or guide.
  • A member of the lowest rank in an order of knighthood.

(Of course, I live with two furry companions, and I can’t give the other short shrift. Say hello to Felix P. Hoenicker):

This is much more than your opportunity to flood the internet with cat photos (although the internet’s ability to absorb cat photos is infinite, so one can never have too many). Your companion might be a pet, or your partner or progeny. Maybe it’s an object you unconsciously fiddle with as you work, a view that keeps you company, an album that helps you stay grounded, or a hobby you use to unwind at the end of each day. (If your companion is actually a low-ranking knight, you win.)

michelle-weberShare a picture of a COMPANION and explain why you chose that picture.

We’re excited to see who and what you share your lives with!

New to The Daily Post? Whether you’re a beginner or a professional, you’re invited to get involved in our Weekly Photo Challenge to help you meet your blogging goals and give you another way to take part in Post a Day / Post a Week. Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

1. Each week, we’ll provide a theme for creative inspiration. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Friday when the next photo theme will be announced.

2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “Weekly Photo Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.

3. Subscribe to The Daily Post so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS. You can also follow us on Twitter.

  1. Hi Michelle,
Your Chester looks quite abit like our Buster [].
Give him a nice pat, please.
    Best regards from southern Texas,

  2. This is an unusual, but timely, entry for Companion. My blog has been my faithful creative companion for the past year and this weekend I’m celebrating my one-year anniversary as a blogger! My ‘anniversary’ post is at:

It’s great being part of this blogging community even though I only post twice a month. Thank you to all who have stopped by for a visit!

    1. Here is my stylized version of the “Weekly Photo Challenge: Companionable” :
The adventures of Argo the rescued pup…now at ten months old, running in a field, to the tune of… the acoustic version of “…born free — as free as the wind blows — as free as the grass grows — born free to follow your heart…” , in slow motion… in a dream sequence, fade out… to the sound of … tiny barking arff-arff-arff … and zoom out . sunset. View at:
      Happy weekend!

  3. Crutches have been my constant companions for a few weeks. In a couple more weeks I will no longer need them. Having two legs to stand on is the kind of thing that we take for granted but should not . Not everybody is so lucky as I have been and this have made me feel closer to them. But most of all, respect for them. I can not help but wonder at the grace they show under the pressure of daily life.

  4. Thank you: to WordPress likers and linkers: Leanne Cole, Ron Scubadiver , photosbyandy, swichtheripper, NW Frame of Mind, mtlawleyshire, mrscarmichael, advocacine, Angie, The Lint In My Pocket … and likers of the original supermoon photos post in my blog: recoveryhealthâ„¢, Khaula Nazir, generaliregi , Sreejit Poole , namelessneed , allmostrelevant , lasf2013 in Clarksburg… The post for the Weekly Photo Challenge: Companionable can still be viewed at:
    Happy weekend everyone!

  5. I am brand new to the Weekly Photo Challenge. I had fun finding pictures that fit my feelings about the word ‘companionable.’ It’s amazing how the two pictures seemed to explain what the theme word means to me. More than posting a picture of a companion, I wanted to describe the meaning of the word… or, in this case, the two meanings of the word and how they coexist. Thank you, WordPress and readers!

  6. Keeping company is a fair reward:
    – with strange bedfellows, but not unknown to the readers of my blog. This is follow-up of the photo-story about the germinating castor plant and the morning glory kept home during the winter:
I have announced the idea of this post in my writing turn under the essay “Philosophy of composition”.

  7. of course like your web site but you need to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts.
Several of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it
very bothersome to tell the reality on the other hand I will definitely come again

For anyone who is in search of an entertaining and offbeat take on this week’s photo challenge, stop by my blog “Points of View” where you can learn bit about Cronkite the dog and see him and a squirrel while you learn the story of their mutually companionable stroll and how it came to be told on my blog.
