Today, let a familiar shape inspire you.
With 2016 officially here, we face forward to take on what’s next. It’s a time of endings and beginnings, so I wanted a broad theme that could be simple, fun, and festive, but also complex and introspective. And so, circle it is.
My interpretation of circle is this fisheye selfie from Horseshoe Bend, where the Colorado River bends around Glen Canyon in Arizona, 1,000 feet below:
I love this photograph because it reminds me of a fantastic road trip (and why I love traveling in general), but also makes me think deeper: about all of the beauty in this world, my own mortality, and time and timelessness (and how long it takes for nature to create such awe-inspiring landscapes).
With this theme, you may go literal, and look for things around you with perfectly round shapes: your wedding ring, the bubbles your daughter blows, the curvy sculptures at your local museum, or the glittery sphere that falls during a New Year’s Eve countdown. Or, you might consider what this familiar shape represents: the cycle of life and death, infinity, perfection, and more.
