Whether or not you celebrate a winter holiday, the years’ end is a perfect time to look back at the year-that-was and happily forward to the year-that-will-be. A time of renewal, celebration, and joy.
This week, let’s set ourselves up for a happy new year: share a photo that shows us JOY. Here’s one to get you started:
While in Hanoi, Vietnam, my friends and I went for a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, where we found a group of older women doing some mid-morning jazzercize. When they began doing The Chicken Dance, we couldn’t stay still; before we knew it we were in the circle, clapping and shimmying with the best of them.
It’s impossible to keep a smile off your face when you’re publicly impersonating a chicken with a group of highly amused Vietnamese grandmothers, and I snapped this shot of one of my travel companions mid-cluck. The open arms, the smile, the sense of abandon — it embodies joy.
When was the last time you captured “joy” with your lens? Your five-year-old opening the hoped-for gift on Christmas morning? A puppy quivering with excitement when his best friend gets home at the end of a long workday? A colorful riot of flowers, or a sunset in an explosion of orange and pink?
This week, in a post created specifically for this challenge, show us JOY.
New to The Daily Post? Whether you’re a beginner or a professional, you’re invited to get involved in our Weekly Photo Challenge to help you meet your blogging goals and give you another way to take part in Post a Day / Post a Week. Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:
- Each week, we’ll provide a theme for creative inspiration. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Friday when the next photo theme will be announced.
- To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “Weekly Photo Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.
- Follow The Daily Post so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements, and subscribe to our newsletter — we’ll highlight great photos from each month’s most popular challenge.
