Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.
Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?
The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:
- Learn, a series of step-by-step tutorials for those just starting out.
- All our posts on building an audience and growing your traffic.
- If you’re stuck for inspiration, here are our Daily Prompts and other ideas for writing topics.
- A roundup of posts on blogging etiquette.
Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).
Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.
Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.
To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:
- While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
- The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
- If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
- We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
- Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
- To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
- If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
- No running on the deck.

Hi, pool friends!
I guess this is what it means to be “stuck in a rut.” I’ve hit a dead end, not sure what I want to do with my life next. In times of trouble, I picked up a book- The Alchemist. A lot of the book echoed my thoughts, philosophy, spirituality. I have many questions, like the boy. And the book helped me find some answers.

I hadn’t heard of Paulo Coelho, despite being interested in the subject matter. Your review is well-written and to the point and I just checked the reviews on Amazon, around 82%, four or five star out of nearly 2000 reviews. It’s also available in audiobook, which I personally prefer over reading an actual physical book myself (although I often buy the book too), so thank you for the heads-up on an intriguing title!

Thank you, Simon! I’m sure you will find your own inspirations through it, I hope that it is a relaxing read for you as it was for me!

I think being “stuck in a rut” actually helps as it lets you and learn more about yourself and what you want out of life, just like what it did to me. Instead of books tho, I found traveling helpful as well as filling my soul up. But I must admit that I wanted to read The Alchemist even more bcoz of your post! ☀️

I read the book long time ago but I didn’t remember much about it. Thanks for the review. I like your thoughts especially about religion. Though it was a little difficult to read your post since the texts were moving around because of the photo slides on top with different photo sizes.

Hello everybody, Simon from To Cut a Short Story Short here with my latest post. I recently joined a ‘development circle,’ which is a weekly group where we sit with a medium and learn to develop our psychic powers and connect with ‘higher beings.’ I wrote a brief account of my experiences so far, in a light-hearted style, just 750 words. I hope you find it interesting and enjoyable.

Ha ha, we’ll see. Maybe I’ll do a six month ‘progress report,’ but it’s a long haul. Top mediums have been at it for ten, twenty, thirty years or more, AND they experienced all kinds of psychic phenomena when young, whereas I didn’t!
But there’s every chance of something interesting happening, so yes, I’ll certainly think about it. Thanks very much for the feedback!

Hi!
My newest post is about Google Duplex! Google’s new way of preventing you from using your phone. I look at the positives, negatives and the ethics of the software! I hope you like it!
LikeLiked by 29 people
Really interesting post! I’m personally a bit uncomfortable with Duplex and the ethics of it…is it dishonest for a AI to convincingly “uh” and “um” to emulate human dialogue, or is it, as you argue, the convenient next step for technology. There’s not necessarily a clear or right answer, but it is such an interesting conversation. Thanks for sharing your perspective on it!
LikeLiked by 5 people
Thank you so much for reading the post! Yes, there are ethics issues with it and I see the other side of the conversation but as you said, it is the next step for technology. You are totally right when saying that there is no clear answer to the topic and that makes it much more debatable and open-ended.

A very interesting blog post. I think that there definitely needs to be a discussion around the ethics of this topic — the examples given were innocent enough, but can you imagine being plagued by sales calls (which will be ten-a-penny!) from Google Assistant? I don’t relish the prospect…
LikeLiked by 5 people
Thanks for reading it! Yes, you do make a good point and one that I thought of too. I don’t want other companies using the assistant to make sales calls. I hope Google has a way to combat that.

There should be a protocol set before these things are rolled out. Thats just my thoughts.

Wow! Very interesting. I think you are absolutely right that the Assistant should not identify as such because the call will end. “Calling for a client” is perfect.

You have some links to very interesting articles, carefully chosen. Perhaps a little from yourself about why you chose that article , why it should interest others would bring some personality to the blog, if that is what you wish. I think people are more likely to follow if they have a connection to you as an individual.

I think I can see where you are wanting to go with your blog –dissemination of information and knowledge regarding your area of expertise, which is a very interesting field. When I first arrived on your blog, there was nothing there to tell me what it was all about. Perhaps a tag line would be a helpful addition to your header. You are a stem cell expert–show it off! Perhaps the photo-based theme is not best suited to your purpose. Having a headline and blurb will encourage readers to click through to your post.
Expanding on what the previous reviewer noted regarding the addition of personal reasons or thoughts on why you are sharing that article or information would increase views, but it will also eliminate the appearance of plagiarism. It’s not common in blogs, and perhaps many don’t even think about it, but for instance, on your most recent post, you list the post as being written by you (which the headline was), but then your post is simply a link to a National Geographic article. At first I thought, “wow, they made it to the NG?” but then reading the article, you are not mentioned (and as far as I can tell, your studies are not included in their article).
I would have been very interested in reading your take on the article or how your studies expand on what the article is about. There is a lot of great possibility with your blog. I am looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Good round off on plus points and there are many more too. Similarly there are negative side too for any technology/events Every coin has two sides similar to negative and positive poles of a battery. You cant generate current with just one pole right or we cannot have just north pole on our earth right we have a south pole too.
I remember seeing a short story of an individual on a phone busy socialising on the net whereas that individual was oblivious to the surrounding physical environment and missed many a great opportunity to form bonds with friends and family. In the end that individual was left all alone with no one to talk to but just the phone and virtual environment.
So there should always be a balance in the end with whatever we do or use.
