First Friday

Brand new blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  1. Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s First Friday. I am here to support and give feedbacks to all of you, post your links below and let’s get started- what you say?
Also I have seen some people having trouble with posting their links but which do not open successfully.
Guys, you have to you have to post your blog site address, not the address of editor or settings. I hope I cleared up, at least a bit 😂
    Cheers guys ✌️✌️

    1. Hi there 🙂
I plan to go into journalism and this seems like a good place to start. I’ll submit my first post tomorrow. Is there anything I should know before then?
      Cheers 🙂

      1. Hi Jessie. This should be a perfect platform for you to hone your journalism skills. Have to inform you – before you submit your first post you need to invite one of us old bloggers to cut the ribbon and raise a toast!!!
Awwww Just joking. Go ahead and post it Jessie. Good luck and have fun with the blogging journey!!

      2. Thanks! I’ll post it after I have the interview tonight. I’ll be talking to a former gangster who was on the show “Beyond Scared Straight”, so it should be interesting 🙂

      1. Hi, and welcome!

We’re glad you’re so excited about your new blog (yay!), and that you shared your link here. We’d appreciate it if you didn’t leave multiple, identical comments linking to your blog — it’s considered a little spammy and we’ll remove the duplicates. The best way to get people to visit you is to visit them and/or leave them some meaningful feedback!

    1. Welcome.
What I would suggest is to just have excerpts on the Home page instead of full posts. Once you write more, it will be more difficult for people to reach your older posts (lots of scrolling).

    1. Hey! Interesting choice for the first post. Your theme is in sync with the first post but if you are planning on writing about lighter topics I would suggest changing the theme! Keep blogging & all the very best!

      1. Since the name of your blog is icy poetry something white, icy, cloudy would look more in sync. But that’s just my opinion!

    2. Hello, perhaps you could just have excerpts on your Home page instead of full posts? When you add most posts, it will become a very long page. Also, I cannot click “like” on your home page posts.

    1. I like the name of your blog. Very inviting.
A nice intro post. I would consider either pinning it to the front (so other people in the future can read it), or maybe creating an “About” page and adding that info there.
      Good luck with your blogging!

      1. Hey guys! I just started blogging two days ago and I’m glad to see a forum like this out here. I have a dating blog that addresses controversial dating topics and past experiences of relationships that highlights common mistakes that people can relate to and learn from. So be sure to checkout and follow my blog and let me know what you think.

        Here’s my link: https://datingrookie.com

        Thanks!

  2. I am a US Navy Veteran. A few months back I happened on a poetry circle at the Veterans Hall here in Santa Cruz, CA. There were a few of us who met on a regular basis. We learned about and wrote poetry, made new friends, had some work published and discovered the power of verse. Collectively, it was a moving experience that, unfortunately, came to an end.
In an effort to keep a good thing going I started this blog where we can continue to meet and write and share. The first post was made on 07.April.18 and features five “American Sentences” as defined by Ginsburg. You can find it here: https://veteranspoetrycircle.wordpress.com/2018/04/07/18/
There have been some subsequent postings as well. I would like to invite you all to visit our site. Comment on the poems, if you like, and to come back and visit as often as you’d like.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Maybe just have excerpts on the main page instead of the whole post? It’s cumbersome to scroll if you want to see some of your older posts. You’ve definitely kept busy since you first started. You enjoying your blogging?

    1. Personally, I don’t like the thee in which a large chunk of the screen (top part/ banner/ whatever) stays no matter how low I scroll. It obscures half the screen, making it very cumbersome to read. Also the AI-yooo or whatever it was is just … confusing. I don’t get it. But that’s a cool topic you’re exploring there.

    2. Hey! Interesting topic to write on. My only suggestion would be that you reduce the amount of information in a single blog & break it into multiple smaller ones by linking them. This way readers can always come back & the heaviness of the topic will not affect your readership!

  3. Hello fellow bloggers.
I hope you all are enjoying the blogging. It is more fun when done keeping other bloggers in mind. The best of being a blogger is to know other people, what their views are and how their life has changed by certain experiences. Looking forward to know about new bloggers.
    Hugs and kisses

      1. An important topic, sounds like you didn’t have the best type og friends, when you find the right people it might be different, it is so much better when loyalty and kindness is reciprocated! 😊 Keep up the good work 👍

  4. Hey there internet! I just posted my first blog posts today. I will attach the link to the first blog and a link to my website. I am very excited to be writing, and pursue this new platform. I can’t stop writing, I’ve been addicted all day. I actually wrote 3 posts!
Still working on the outlay of the website, but I’m more excited about getting content on to the page first.

    1. Love your blog content. But I cannot seem to be able to find a menu button which list out all your posts. And perhaps adding an “about me” page to introduce yourself and your blog would be good.

    1. Hello and Welcome to WordPress. Your first post “Welcome” post does a great job of telling readers what to expect from you. Consider adding that to your about me page so it can be easily found. Your blog Roll widget is interesting and leads to some helpful sites. I liked that. It made me consider adding one to mine. Overall good start. Good Luck.

    1. 1. Maybe add an about page.
      2. Maybe use some of your first post stuff for the about page.
      3. Maybe use only an excerpt instead of the full post on the home page.
      4. Hope you enjoy your blogging.
      5. Your theme, blog name and header look/ sound cool

      1. Cool! I can now see your posts. Perhaps you can also add a “Home” button on the top of your site so that people can go back to your home page after reading one post?

      1. Hey there! Welcome to WordPress. Great header photo and great photos in the post of your first summit. Especially Jack. That’s what i’ve named the donkey took a photo with. Overall your page has a great set up. Consider doing experts as suggested earlier. Also, your first post does a great job of telling readers what to expect from you. Consider adding an about page with that information too so that potential followers can see that quickly and know what to expect here.
