First Friday

Brand new blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

Please note: First Friday will be on hiatus next week. We’ll return on Friday, April 6th

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.
  • When commenting, avoid copying and pasting the same response repeatedly. It makes it look like you’re not really paying attention. Not to mention, it’s spammy.

      1. I would definitely suggest an about me page, I’d like to know a little about you and what kind of things you would like to blog about!
I’d also suggest breaking your post down I to smaller paragraphs to make it easier to read without losing your place. That’s very easy to do when reading online! Add a picture or gif where possible as it helps catch attention. Have a look at others blogs, follow a few and get a feel for where you want to take your blog. I’d highly recommend the WordPress “courses” too. They’re a great resource. Good luck and have fun blogging!!

    1. Love the layout and flow of blog. I would love to follow and read your future posts but I didn’t see a follow button on your site 😦 Definitely should get one up or if I missed it make it more visible!

      1. Hi @Sugow Mo,

Please don’t respond with short, similar comments with an invitation to read your posts. It’s kind of spammy and we delete them. If you want to attract an audience, the best thing to do is to visit others’ sites, read their posts and comment thoughtfully on what they’re sharing. People are naturally curious about the person who takes a genuine interest in them. They’ll want to visit you in return.

    2. I left you a comment. A great post, which is reassuring for so many women. A good topic choice too, as there is so much bad press about not breastfeeding.

    1. Like your about page. Nicely written.

Your poetry is very beautifully written, they capture the moment in spasms of vocabulary that taunt the imagination. Lovely work. I will follow you and look forward to more. Great job!

    1. Hi Tanya!!
I’d definitely recommend an about page so we can read a little about you and what you’ll be blogging about. Adding a “like” button would be good too so people can like your posts and follow you easily

      1. Thanku for visiting my blog 😃. Regarding the about I am trying my best to come up with that . I will surely add it . Is the like and follow button not visible?

      2. I go to ‘edit’ the post. Either on the right hand side or underneath the posy, there’s an area where you check a box to accept comments and another for likes.

      3. Those boxes are already checked . ,🤔I wonder what the problem is . Anyways thankyou for letting me know. I will see to it.

      Welcome to WordPress!

I read some of your poems and I really liked reading them! I must say, the ideas behind them are great.

I noticed that you don’t have an ‘About’ page on your site. Well, I would definitely recommend you to add it! An ‘About’ page which would talk about your blog and what it aims at will help the visitors understand your blog better!

      Happy blogging!🌼

I hope you all are enjoying the blogging. It is more fun when done keeping other bloggers in mind. The best of being a blogger is to know other people, what their views are and how their life has changed by certain experiences.

      Welcome to WordPress!

I read your recent post and I loved reading it. I think you’ve said exactly what needs to be said regarding the matter of ‘self love’ and what beauty means. It’s such a wonderful post! Have left a comment on it, too!

Your display name can still be bankrupt millionaire- if you look at mine you’ll see my ‘name’ and blog url are different 😊

    1. Hi!!
I like your content and your about page. One thing that I think would really help is if you just have snippets of your posts on your home page so people can browse more easily. It’s off putting to have to scroll through whole posts to get to
One. You’ll get more viewers for all your posts if you just have Buckley style options! You might benefit from the WordPress “courses” – I found them extremely helpful 😊

      1. That’s actually something I thought about but I have no idea how to do as I’m relatively new myself! Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it!! I will look into figuring out how to do that through the courses 😊

    2. Hi, great start! I would suggest customising your sidebar or footer (depending on theme) for Archives, Categories and Tags. You are allowed 15 combined categories and tags on each piece of work before the WordPress anti-spam filter stops searching your posts. I use Archives and Categories to help locate my work as my blog develops and they also help your readers find articles they want to read, too. 🙂

      Liked by 2 people

      1. Thank you 😊 I didn’t know you’re allowed that many! You’re right, it’s so much easier to search that way! Even for me as I start to create more posts. Thank you again, I appreciate your feedback ❤️

    1. That post will make a great “about” page. Id definitely switch it to that or it’ll get lost in the lists as you write more. For future posts, id definitely make sure that you select your options so that just excerpts appear. People can click on those for the whole post. The advantage of that is that more posts show so they’re read by more people!

    2. Great post! You raise important points and I suppose having users/gamers comment who need these changes help Nintendo go that bit further with releases (I would hope). Are you on social media? You could share on Nintendo’s Twitter platform if they have one. Just one tip, a couple of your paragraphs could do with being halved due to length, this makes for easier reading on electronic devices. Great stuff! 🙂

    1. To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.
Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Tell us a little about you, why you’re blogging and what your blog will be about. It’s a taster, a teaser to get people to look deeper. Have a look at others about me pages and find what works for you but bear in mind, it’s the first thing a lot of people look for so make it work 😊

    1. Hey! You could try adding an About page to your blog. It helps other bloggers to know and connect with you personally. Also, in regards to your last post, try adding a little bit of extra formatting maybe ? Sometimes, it becomes boring reading long chunks of text so you could try bolding, using italics etc to keep the reader interested and make the post more appealing. Keep blogging!

    2. Your content is great. As others have said, an about me page and breaking your chunks of text down would be a big help! It’s heady to lose your place reading on line! I couldn’t see like or follow buttons at the end of your posts. Those are pretty much essential. You want to make it as easy as possible for people to like, comment and follow you. If I have to give my email to leave a comment, well, I’ll be honest, I don’t comment.
