First Friday

Brand new blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.
  • When commenting, avoid copying and pasting the same response repeatedly. It makes it look like you’re not really paying attention. Not to mention, it’s spammy.

    1. Your blog is just fabulous. It’s just the start you have a long way to go. Literature didn’t amuse me earlier. It’s recently that I took a liking to it. It makes it easier to express our thoughts.
      Happy blogging!

    2. Omg I literally adoreee your About page. It’s so vibrant and awesome and gurl if you need new music, then tell me(which is ironic because I mostly listen to the stuff from the 80’s hahahaha ok I’ll shut up now). I’m also Arabian but my name isn’t really all that Arab lol

      1. Girl, I’m all about the 60s-80s! 90s, too! Generally all good music that apparently isn’t in this decade.. some are still good though nowadays, just.. not as good as music used to be. In my opinion, at least. I’m not Arabian though.. Malays in Malaysia are all muslim so we’ve adopted a lot of Arabic muslim names (:

      2. Ooh ok fair enough. And if you need a new band to listen to, I highly recommend Greta Van Fleet. They’re still young but they sound so much like Led Zeppelin it’s awesome.

    1. Ha! I can absolutely relate to feeling as though I had no idea what I was doing when I first began blogging. As long as you’re having fun, though, that’s of that matters!

      1. Hi @briacadbury,

Please don’t leave a link to your site as part of your comment signature. It’s a little spammy and we have to delete them. I noticed that you’re linking to a site other than the one that’s attached to your Gravatar — if you’d like to update that, go to http://wordpress.com/profile. Thanks for all your enthusiasm here at First Friday! It’s wonderful to have thoughtful bloggers such as you commenting in the group!

    1. I think you did a great job! I’m guessing English isn’t your first language by some of your word choices and ways of composing sentences. That’s absolutely not a criticism, I find it very quaint and charming, there’s a graciousness about the choices in your vocabulary that is very appealing

      2. It’s very original! I find that aesthetics can greatly enhance the content of a blog. I’m lucky to have a graphic artist in my family who was able to develop mixed media logos for my blogs.

      3. I actually just photoshop that logo from two different pictures since I can’t find a logo that is suited for my blog name. Fortunately, it looks good!

Interesting, I’ll check out that site.

      4. Hog Ninja is actually an anagram of my name JOHN and my girlfriend, GINA. The blog is all about the two of us. So it’s the perfect name! (I guess)

Not really, I just know how to play with it and with a little help of youtube 😉

      1. Hi Krista,

I’m so sorry–I didn’t realise this caused a problem! :O I will try to remember not to do it from now on.

Thanks for the advice about the profile. I think I might be looking in the wrong place or getting confused because I had a look and the link to This Door is Alarmed was listed under ‘links’ at the bottom of the profile page in your commented link. Can you help me with what I am getting wrong? Thanks very much for whatever help you can provide (and sorry again!!!)

      1. It certainly could help! I’ll began blogging from a personal need to detox emotionally from trauma and to cope with chronic illness and pain. It has been transformative for me physically and emotionally!

    1. I love the designs. Have you created them yourself? If you are looking to sell your creations, and you want a little advice, I would write a little bit about yourself. Who you are, why this is your passion. It will make the reader feel more closely attuned to you and want to purchase your designs because of you as well as because they are beautiful. Being faced immediately with a selling pitch might be a put off to some. Love your work. Wish I could make things like that!
