First Friday

Brand new blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Bloggers, please note:

First Fridays is a place for brand new bloggers sharing their first post published within the last month. We moderate this space heavily — your comment will be deleted if you’re linking to a site with posts older than a month. Please post only one link to your site; multiple comments / duplicate requests to visit a site will be deleted. Links to your site as a “signature” in your comment will be deleted.

      Thank you and happy blogging!

      1. Hi, I checked our your blog. I loved all the pictures and maybe you could make usage of space between paragraphs which would make it easier to read. I liked your second post & left you a comment. 🙂

    1. Your post on saving money by making your own coffee is so detailed and persuasive. I wonder how many other little ways we waste money on small luxuries when we could pocket it? Great post!

      1. Thank you Elina. I love your name! 🙂 I am happy it was thought provoking and you found it to be persuasive.
To answer your question – There are so many other little things we can do to save. I have a few ideas that I plan on exploring hopefully soon. But another one I recently explored was prescription glasses and how to save on those. Check it out if you wear glasses or even if your friends do!:)

  2. Hi Everyone,

I’d love to read some new blogs! I’m a relatively new blogger, too, but I like reading what others have to say, too. 🙂

    1. Alright, hey! I love your site name; and I went through some of your posts. You’re a pretty neat writer. I genuinely scrolled RIGHT to the bottom to head on up from there, because that’s just the kind of person I am. (if I like something, I have to go through EVERYTHING)
Although I didn’t go through every post, I actually do plan on. You have an amazing blog; and I think your writing, in itself, says how amazing it is more than my words will ever be able to. Keep writing, happy blogging 😊

    1. It’s a great idea to write blog posts ahead. Life happens and sometimes we can’t get to the computer for a few days—then it’s helpful to have some stuff written and ready to post in a hurry. I also schedule posts for the days I won’t be at my computer.

    1. Wow 😋Italian food. And I think with my Spanish and some imagination and guessing I can even figure out the recipes. Or maybe you might want to do an English translation for each recipe. To reach a bigger audience. I’ve seen bilingual recipe blogs doing great.

    1. I can’t help but notice that you’re using a lot of tags on your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your work, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers. Here are some tips on tagging you might find helpful.

    2. Well done! I like your random subjects and can relate to your thoughts on how your blog will be received. I too, have heard that you need a niche market, but please continue to write about whatever you like. It will be more authentic if the content is what you enjoy writing about as opposed to what you think people will want to read.

  6. Hey there! I’m new to blogging, although I had a pretty sweet LiveJournal in 2003 soooo I’ve got that going for me… 😉 I’d love to connect with people who know what they’re doing and I’m always open to feedback.

I’m writing about craft beer, traveling, and drinking beer while traveling. Here’s my first post: https://havebeerswilltravel.wordpress.com/2018/02/23/5-places-to-drink-good-beer-in-puerto-vallarta/

I think your blog looks pretty swell. I might add some Featured images to your posts to draw people’s attention. I can’t tell if you’re using Tags/Categories, but those are helpful for organizing your blog and getting seen. 🙂 Great start!

    1. Welcome! I couldn’t see where to ‘like’ your post. I’d also recommend you complete your About page, it can really make the difference between someone following you or not. Have a look around other established blog sites for their About page to see the level of interest they generate. Good luck!

    1. I think you’ve got a good start.
Your tagline is a tad long so I’d shorten it down to one sentence. You should make a spiffy About page and include the longer explanation there.
Going into your profile settings and changing your Gravatar might also be a good idea. I’d change it to something that represents you or your blog. (For example, like how my Gravatar icon–the thing you see next to my name here–is a picture of one of the characters that I write about on my blog.)
