First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    2. Great post! Thank you for speaking up for all the creatures that don’t have their own voice! I recently wrote a little poem related to this topic- inspired by daily prompt.

      1. Hope you find my comment useful! 😊
Btw, are you looking to post stuff on pets? For e.g., your adventures with any dogs that you may have? You may just be able to influence more people to cherish their relationships with dogs, or appreciate the sentience that dogs share with us humans 🙂

      1. Hi Kris, Thanks for sharing the love of your adorable pup! Haha (I’m not sure if he or she is a puppy, but all dogs are pups right? Hehe)
A suggestion from me would be that you could try making your blog a little more tidy by adding the “See more” tab for each post. I’m using my phone to see this actually, so I’m just assuming that the desktop version will be almost the same.
The “See more” tab should help readers locate the posts they’d be interested to read or reread quicker in that way, instead of scrolling through many other posts.
All the best to blogging! Hope this advice helps eventually as you build up your blog. 😊💕
        Cheers,
        TTT

  2. Hello lovely bloggers!
I celebrated my month anniversary yesterday (I don’t know if I’m still classed as new or not). I aim to inspire, motivate and challenge others whilst doing the same to myself through life experiences.
I have also written some hints and tips for new bloggers as well as a few more fun posts to get to know me! Would love some feedback on my site, writing style or content and I’m happy to do the same for anyone else!

    1. Cue “Pomp and Circumstance!” You’re ready to move on to the Community Pool, where the water is fine and the members of the community are lovely. Bloggers of all stripes and levels of experience are welcome to comment there and ask for feedback and advice on their blog. All the best!

    1. Welcome and well done.
One suggestion – you might want to add the “read more” tag to the posts on your home page. You can do so by going back and in the editing (composing) window, click on the “Insert read more tag”, which is located at the top of your toolbar.

Why does it matter? Once you post more content, it will be difficult for people to scroll so much in search of different posts.

  3. I’m also a new blogger, if that’s what you want to call it. I’m really here to share my story of infertility and recurrent miscarriage. We have just recently decided to do a gestational surrogacy since I am unable to carry a child. Hoping to share our journey with people as we go. I was pretty emotional writing my first blog post so it’s probably no where near perfect but I tried. If you would like to read it, the link is https://oursurrogacyjourneyorg.wordpress.com/2018/02/09/our-battle-with-infertility-and-recurrent-miscarriage/

    1. This was an extremely well-written, well-thought out post. I am anxious to see more from you. I appreciated your candid views and ability to take neutrality to convey information and then opinion. Fantastic.

    2. I like your blog and your writing. If you can arrange it so your readers aren’t required to leave their email address in order to comment, you might be able to invite more comments. Otherwise, keep up the great work!

      1. Thank you for your kind words. Probably you are right. I most certainly had arranged for it once but then I noticed that anybody could leave their comments by being anonymous. But I didn’t like the idea of people leaving their comments without leaving their identity. I’m not using anybody’s email for spamming their inbox. But yes I would definitely like to see what kind of people are liking and commenting on my post. More so because that way even I can get a chance to look into their blogs. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. I’m happy that you were so honest regarding the feedback. Please checking my space for more such articles. Thanks.

    3. Wow!!
This is too good. I’ve always felt what is the hype about feminists, their demands are mostly not fair and most of the time they tend to speak out on very irrational topics.
Feminism is truly a misconception for some. And you are absolutely right, equality is the way to go, that is where feminism actually started.

      Liked by 3 people

      1. Exactly. I don’t get the point of calling them feminist when equality is what we are after. The prefix “fem” is one of the reasons people, especially men, get offended.

        Liked by 3 people

      2. 100% true. If we start raising voice for equality instead of feminism, even men might actually hear it since equality is not gender specific and they will be interested in “what is in it for them”. We might actually get better results for the society as a whole.

  4. Happy First Friday! Please stop on by if you find you love unique art styles, or are interested in light reading of original fictional stories!

    https://mrsamuelhyde.wordpress.com/author/mrsamuelhyde/

I’ve been blogging for almost a full week now and cannot say how much I’ve appreciated all the support I’ve gotten starting out. I’m an artist, so it’s hard to post often, but with the help and encouragement of the community I’ve been able to develop a way to keep my site interesting. If you are at all fascinated by unique art styles, please stop by 🙂 I have incorporated story telling into my pieces, through world building. I uncover my story one sketch at a time, methodically and quite literally, drawing the landscape of this tale. This will be my last first Friday, so please give my story a glance if this sounds like something you would enjoy! I hope my message finds you well, and your first Friday is an excellent one!

    Most Sincerely,

    Samuel Hyde

      1. Thank you very much! I hope I can continue to keep things interesting on my page and stretch my art style to include more as I go. I really appreciate the comment and look forward to your posts as well! I too, “feel like Batman,” from blogging anonymously and I wish you the best of luck 🙂

      1. Absolutely!! I’m excited to see more of your comic strip 🙂 it’s a blast getting to see other styles, and thank you so much! That really means a lot, and I haven’t seen many cartoons drawn the way yours is, I like it a lot! Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff and good luck going forward my friend

  5. Hey guys!
I can’t wait to check out all of your blogs! I’m not gonna lie, it’s been a little nerve wracking putting my stuff out there for everyone to read and trying to navigate WordPress. I’ve got so much to learn and I hope I get the hang of it soon. Ever since I can remember I’ve loved writing; I have several completed journals going back to when I was seven years old all the way to adulthood. English isn’t my native tongue and I don’t have a writing degree (future goal), so I’m constantly second guessing myself and end up just leaving my posts in the draft folder, lol. The main reason I decided to do this is to learn as much as I can, by reading all these great posts and by receiving constructive criticism and most of all, to prove something to myself. My new-found passion for blogging has been met with skepticism by quite a few people in my inner circle and I’ve made it my personal mission to prove them wrong. We all have a story that deserves to be heard (or read, in this case). Happy blogging!
