First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Very well put. I love your perspective on things. I actually feel the same way. Ppl take the little things for granted everyday. Great blog! Keep journaling. 💛

    2. Hey Daniela, great start and intro.
Did you note that your about page last line kind of repeated or you wanted to write that way? Also, those social icons on your blog could be connected to your social channels or be removed altogether. A journalist with the heart of the poet….can do great wonders on blogging… Good luck!

    3. Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging, Dani! 😃 Your writing is open and honest and I think that will lead you to a wide variety of readers/followers. Thank you for sharing your first post! One thing: do you have your like button enabled?

      1. You’re welcome! And best of luck, again!! Enjoy this time; it’s a lot of fun!

Hmm…I saw it on your second post but not your first. That’s very odd.

      2. I’m not sure since you have it working on your other posts? Perhaps make sure it’s enabled on all posts? Maybe this will help you:

Under your homepage go to Sharing —> sharing buttons then show buttons on, this is under options, make sure you click the appropriate places where you want it to show up.

If this doesn’t work, maybe it’s just an issue on my end?

    2. Nice beginning of great looking blog Sonal. Interesting posts! 🙂
Just want to tell you, there is a text widget on your blog which needs to be edited. Also, try to use “read more” tags to your posts so that your posts looks tidy on your homepage. Currently, the whole post is displayed. It could be a problem when you have more posts. Those social icons at the bottom could be linked to your social channels… rest all good… keep writing ..good luck!

  1. Namaste! It’s my first day blogging and it feels good. It’s the first month of the year and I’m on my way to do things in 2018. Don’t have much for now but will definitely jot down my perception towards certain things soon. GOOD DAY PEOPLE OF THE WORLD.

    1. Namaste, congratulations on your new blog… Please note your first post does not have like button enabled. You have to enable it from post settings in editor mode. Also, note green background and some of the font colours you have kind of difficult to read. Hope this helps. Good luck!

    2. Like the others, I’d say look into adding an “About” page, as well as consider font/ background color. While the regular black text is fine on the green, the quotes and tags and descriptions in grey make it difficult to see on the green.

    1. Good start Naman! Hello, from another Mechanical Engineer! 🙂 Nice to see study related blog here, which are very rare here. Try to add “read more” tags for lengthy blogs so that only part of your post shows up on the home screen. Good luck!

      1. You can’t categorize Love☺️. It can never be good or bad, no chance for ‘worst’, for sure! Love is just love. It’s totally the people involved are responsible for its fate..! Some keep it alive and soaring, others just give up. And dear, everything has its share of struggles! ☺️

    1. 1. I’m not a podcast fanatic.
      2. Your “Music” page takes forever to load (I’m assuming it’s because of your basic wordpress account combined with lost of media on that page).
      3. I read that it’s 3 people that are working on this site, but in the about, there is only 1 of you introducing themselves. Did I misread?
      4. Good luck with your WP journey!

  3. Hiya. I’m writing a story about love and the hardships one faces whilst in a relationship and also how people in love willingly make sacrifices that will not benefit themselves but their partner.

    1. I definitely wish you all the best, especially because you are so young. I wish I had the presence of mind to start polishing my craft so early on. And your glossary on the right is a fantastic idea for anyone who jumps in to read your stories.

    1. Two things. One – maybe consider adding an “About” page to your blog. Two – it would be helpful to know where you live (approximate location), so that we know if these lemons in your backyard are available to be grown in any climate.
I’m inviting myself over for drinks!

    1. The link works, but it leads us to your post in the Reader format, instead of on your site. For future reference, to link your general site, go to “My site”, “view site” and then you’ll see a link on top, which you can copy. While you’re there, you can click on any of your posts, and the appropriate links will appear on top again, allowing you to link. Hope that helps.

    1. Hey, great post! (I am not a sewer, my mum was and I’ve been rebelling against it all my adult life!) You kept my interest. I would suggest adding a couple more pics – particularly the different elastics you were discussing that might be somewhat beneficial for a complete dunce in the sewing dept like me! I’ve seen several craft blogs but not sewing (not that I look) so I’m sure you’ll find your like-minded readers. 🙂

    1. Hi! You clearly have some great ideas for things to write about, and I love all the images and jokes. If you want some feedback, I would encourage you to proof read your blogs, but mainly believe in yourself a bit more! It sounds like you’re more confident from behind a keyboard, so I hope you get on really well 🙂

    2. I love this! I’ve felt similarly about my own blog, but I really think it gives a sense of freedom to be able to share your thoughts with the world, particularly on such a friendly platform as this. Also the phrase “go with the whole ginger of the new year” made me laugh 🙂
