Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hello everybody, Simon from To Cut a Short Story Short here with my latest flash fiction tale. The past and present collide in Three Lives, just 550 words this tine. I hope you like it!

    https://simonjwood.wordpress.com/2017/12/10/three-lives/

Also, I have a few promotional codes left for FREE copies of my new audiobooks, To Cut a Short Story Short: 111 Little Stories, the ‘best of my blog’ (up to June 2017), and Bound in Morocco (a short story). If you’d like one, please click the ‘Free Audiobooks!’ link in the ‘recent posts’ sidebar on my blog. That gives you full details of how to obtain and download them. They are both narrated by Angus Freathy, who has done 15 audiobooks to date, and whose ‘voices’ really bring the stories to life!

    1. Hello Ida, sorry to hear about your health…sometimes I wish we could sit our “health”s down and have a ‘heart to heart’ chat about timing and consideration.
I’ve read almost all your reviews…great work.

  2. Hello fellow-bloggers,

I hope you all had a great weekend. I’d like to share another old post with you. It’s a short collection of photographs which attempt the capture the changing beauty of a variety of places around the Scottish coastline. I hope you find these images interesting – I’d love to hear your feedback / criticism.

    1. Omg, my internet is so slow, that I almost gave up on viewing your blog, but I love Scotland and really wanted to see the photographs everyone was raving about! Very nice. Your photography gives such a tranquil feel. My favourite is this: Long exposure at midnight, from Cille Bhrighde, South Uist. Magnificent! I’d gladly hang a print of that in my house! You have a talent!

    2. You’ve taken some fantastic photographs there! Love the feeling of knowing that they were taken here in Scotland. You could maybe think about getting prints of them made? (if you haven’t already)

    1. This is a wonderful post because, honestly, it’s so good to get a positive message to get us back on track. There are so many to choose from that a blog is a perfect place to turn to for suggestions. It’s one of the reasons I visit blogs.

    2. I think I may give “One-Minute Workout” a try. We did a bit of HIT with my cross country team and I’d love to give this a go!

My blog is only about six days old and I love how supportive everyone is!

    3. Wow.. thanks for this Keith! I was not aware that there are so many bestselling self-improvement books in 2017 alone! I liked the way you provided a brief summary along with podcasts of your interviews with the authors. I also appreciate how you have managed to breathe new life into others after the life changing gift from your sister. Anyway, here is my blog, hope you like it: https://abravenewscience.wordpress.com/2017/12/12/realities-the-girl-child-and-retinoblastoma-treatment-in-india/

  3. Hiya swimmers new and old! 😁 Hope each and every one of you had a splendid weekend!

I run a type of language blog, specially exploring British English words and phrases (with a side order of Irish, Scottish, Australian, and New Zealand) through creating writing! I generally write flash fiction companion pieces to the day’s word; but lately I’ve been exploring the poetry genre. Please come check it out!

Now I’m out to the deep end to explore some new blogs. Thanks for stopping in! 💜💫

    1. Loved it! Left a comment on the blog and you definitely earned a new follower in me. Excited to read more and was happy to see on of your most recent posts under “50 States” was Cleveland, Ohio (my hometown!). Keep writing, your awesome!

  4. My latest post for my history blog! Would love you to follow 🙂
Started in September 2016 and finished yesterday! I admit adding 14 photos to look professional was very long winded and took a hell of a lot of editing, even now, I can see where it should be amended further, but the actual writing page on WordPress has the photos perfect, it’s only when you publish they are off centre, etc.
You will see – I gave up! Enjoy a little bit of Victorian postal history 🙂

      1. The plot thickens! I had 2 rows of 3 pics lined up . . .they’ve landed in a V shape. There’s another 3 – 2 vertical (left and right) and then a horizontal one underneath. They have not settled in the correct place. The last 2 have a large gap between the text and photos as in my writing page if I move the text up anymore the text sits partly between the photos!
Next post back to the usual format of one pic at a time. 🙂

  5. Happy Monday everyone! In my last post I wrestled with the struggle of daring to hope for change in the midst of difficult situations, dealing with disappointment, and balancing falling back on proper acceptance. Knowing when and how to hope can be so difficult, especially because no one wants to be disappointed… I would love to hear your thoughts about the post! Thanks.

  6. Goooooood Morning and happy swimming WP lovelies!!

My post for the day is pretty epic. I have written about EVERYTHING you should try to eat when you visit Japan: https://www.awalkandalark.com/japanese-food-guide/

Although it might be good for people who’d like to order new things at their local Japanese restaurant too. 🙂

I hope you guys like it!

I keep thinking of more crazy things to add, so I might do a second post for more adventurous eaters.

    1. I loved the quote you added, it went along well. only thing I would critique on is making the writing more conversational, its kind of a personal topic something you’d talk to a friend about so making it more conversational I think would make it even more relatable, and more likely to come back to the site.

Are you sure you posted this in the right place? It sounds like a helpful comment, but I didn’t really have any quotes in my post, so I have a feeling this is meant for someone else!?

    3. Writing regularly takes time and commitment, so good luck! I read your most recent post, and I suggest adding more images in to break up text. You have subheadings, which helps, but pictures are a bit more visually appealing.
      Happy Blogging!

    1. Hi, quick tip. Make sure to put a space after any punctuation, including commas and brackets. I kept getting distracted while reading your post because my eyes kept finding these little things, and I imagine other readers feel the same.

    1. Political power and be poor, because there is just so much wrong with the world and not enough selfless people in positions to do anything about it.

    2. Couldn’t you make yourself rich by having political power. I sure would try. Also, couldn’t you get political power while being ridiculously rich? Look at all the Hollywood stars and tech giants dabbling in politics.

      1. Thank you!! I looked at your blog and I love reading a bit recipes from cultures I do not typically hear about. Especially including a background story on the significance of the dishes to the related culture. Your readers get a two for one, a recipe and quick history lesson

    2. Such a great post. My job takes me into care homes for the elderly and I always make an effort to have a chat. You don’t know their stories and they could have very little visitors and a little communication goes a lot way to cheer someone up 🙂
