Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. I liked your blog a lot, for me some of them are a bit too long ( i am a bit of a lazy blog reader!) and also in your theme i don’t think you have the ‘like’ button. I am a big fan of that button and it upsets me when there isn’t one there to press!

      1. I know what you mean. Cutting ties can be a big deal! Usually, I wait 8 months to a year before I click unfollow. I figure at that point, the chances of the blogger coming back is very low.

    1. Hi, very interesting (and the comments). I’m trying to build up my readership at the moment. But, tbh, I know my history blog is a little niche. And if it is any thing like my Twitter feed . . . I rarely have any interaction with my 138 followers as it comprises mostly of academic and TV historians. I keep my Facebook for personal interactions only.

      1. The compartmentalization can be hard! I use Twitter to livetweet TV shows but I know that’s not what my blogging followers want to see…it’s up to you! Niche blogs can work well if you do them right! (Which is not to see you’re not doing it right!) 😛

    2. Hmm… interesting. I try to curate the blogs I follow and I tend to unfollow the inactive ones (yep I’m that kind if reader) but as to my own readers/followers, I really cannot control who follows me, just hoping to brighten their day if ever they had a glimpse of my post since they’re all pretty short (4-stanza poems) with an artwork. Hoping to read more from you. 🌻

    3. Such a truthful post, no all followers are people or someone that genuinely reads and interacts. It does make the numbers false. You definitely created an interesting conversation and thought for readers with your post. Completely agree, good write!

    1. I’ve very new here so I’m still writing for my own self, but I can see how easy it would be to get distracted from that. I think it depends though on who your audience is, yourself or someone else. Does that make sense?

      1. It certainly does make sense. I initially started it for myself, then switched when I started building an audience and it made me feel—icky. Now, I’m writing for myself again and feel more focused because of it. Thank you so much for your feedback! It means the world! 🙂

    2. Interesting reading. 9 month’s on and about 52 blog posts I believe I am still sticking to my purpose – travel related. I may not have visited the most iconic places in the world or taken the best photos but I have been to a few places.

      1. Mine is on travel, too (living full time in an RV and touring the US). I’ve found that the ‘big, exciting’ places are packed with tourists and have lots of coverage. I love finding the small places that people may not notice and writing about my experiences there and what internal insights they bring about. I think you have a wonderful niche–and bring those places alive with not just the travel experience, but how it affects you. That’s MY goal–you’ve reached my goal! LOL 🙂

    1. No gonna lie…as soon as I saw Harry Potter I was like I AM IN LET ME SEE! 🙂 haha I have spotted the wands DIY before, but yours look much simpler. I HAVE to try that golden snitch one, though! ❤

    2. I agree with @theloyalbritwit! (Why don’t they have tags?) haha! The first time I followed you (way back early 2017), I was also drawn with your Harry Potter-themed DIY’s. I am impressed that you’ve kept up with your blog. 🌻

    1. I really liked your post! As for feedback, I wonder if there would be a way to consolidate some of your thoughts? I felt like I understood what you were saying with some of your stronger paragraphs alone. Does that make sense?🙂

    1. Great that you shared your thoughts. The only thing I would advise is to state the location of this place clearly earlier rather than later. I’m still trying to figure out where this is. Thanks fir indulging me.

  2. Hi All,

I am trying to cultivate somewhat of a parenting blog that is slanted to Fatherhood. There are so many fantastic Mum blogs out there and equally good Dad blogs, however for sure Dad’s are lighter in number.

I would love to hear your views on my writing style and how to improve. The blog is meant to be self deprecating and dry in humour but actually deal with everyday Dad issues.

    My latest post is here:

Any comments/thoughts would be so very appreciated

    Thanks 🙏🏽

    2. Very fun! If I had any advice, it would that maybe you have two things you are sharing and two posts would work better than the multiple lists? One: how to make Christmas/gifts meaningful to your children and Two: surviving the holidays as a parent. I hope that helps. 🙂

    2. Great tips Ruby. I have noted though that English is not the first language of a few bloggers in the community pool Some of them are from Asian countries. I’m not making excuses for them but I really commend those bloggers for the effort. So many of us have been formally trained and we rather use our talents creating foolish memes and writing using SMS. As a mature person it pains me. It’s nice of you to share your tips and I do hope that people read and absorb them carefully instead of focusing on how many followers (not referring to you as you have a unique niche) they can get in the shortest space of time.

      1. Well I do try to share the love and those are tips I learned with my other mature student friends when we had assignments to hand in at university. We would offer our work for feedback and serious editing to ensure the highest marks possible 🙂
