First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  1. This is our first blog post:

Hard to think this was less than a month ago! We originally listed the blog part of the site under ‘Design Inspiration and News’ on the main menu but realized this just made it harder to find the blog, so we changed the link and updated the welcome post.

Do you think it is still confusing or is it OK now? Any feedback is warmly welcomed. Happy First Friday!

    1. I enjoyed all your pictures and the details written about them. I didn’t like the way it was written as if someone else was interviewing Rick. I think it would be better written as a personal statement and opinion instead.
      Thought the layout looks great!

      1. We were not sure how to do this – the trouble is, Rick doesn’t directly write it and although it isn’t the usual way to write a blog, it seemed more honest to say it is his thoughts and philosophy rather than all his own words. But we’re grateful for your honest feedback and we’ll perhaps change things around later.

      1. Thank you very much! Well, I didn’t have intentions of being a super mom, I️ was thinking more along the lines of a slightly above average mom. But having so many kids so close together and then becoming a full time pancreas, it just kind of felt like the super mom life chose me!

    1. It’s also important to engage with other blogs. Following other related blogs and commenting on interesting blog articles will help create relationships with other bloggers and potentially get more followers. Good luck!

    2. Hi, I love reading about babies and little ones. I would suggest that you add categories and tags to your side bar (up to 15). I see you’ve some tags but as I can’t see all your tags I don’t know if you’ve chosen the most relevant to gain you more readers/followers. I’m sure a pregnancy blog is really appealing for pregnant mothers. You can also customise by adding archives too, and watch the months add up! Great job!

      1. Yes. #Pregnancy #Nursery #25Weeks Really anything in your post that might attract readers. You can use up to 15 combined tags and categories. You can also link your social media. Take a look at other bloggers’ sites and see what they have that you like and then run through the themes before customising.

      2. This might help:

Tags help readers find your blog.
Categories help people already on your blog find specific things on your blog.

If you wrote a post about your favorite movies, you might give it the tag “movies” so people searching for posts about movies in the Reader can find you. Then, you might give it categories like “Comedy” and “Action” so the people already on your blog who are looking for specific kinds of posts can find it.

For tags, think about what *you* would search for to find a post like this.

    1. Hey there. I was looking around your page and you’ve got some good stuff! If you are writing poetry for your own enjoyment and others than the emojis and text language is a-okay 👌🏻 However, if yo are ever looking into publishing you might consider removing them. Welcome to WordPress!

    1. You might consider using categories for your posts. You could even just change the default category to Writing or Fiction, for example, and let all your creative writing posts go in there. That will help other bloggers who love reading to find you in their reader.

    1. Hi!
Your home page is very welcoming! Also, I noticed that you haven’t posted anything on your ‘about’ page. You might want to update it so as to give your visitors an idea about what exactly your blog is/will be about…
      All the best!🌿

  3. Hi everyone! I just recently began blogging and I would love some feedback. I have not told many people that I know personally, about my blog, mainly because the content of my posts tend to be a bit personal. There is something a little terrifying about having my close friends, and family read my blog. I hope you all check it out and feel free to comment, like, and follow if you enjoy what you read!

    1. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags on some of your posts. The Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

    2. Hello @mystorysrn,
You’ve got a nice blog, and you write beautifully.
I noticed some funny business however with your ‘Blog’ tab in your menu…clicking it doesn’t link to your posts. Though there are links to the posts in the sidebar, it would be nice to fix that link too.
      Welcome, and stay blessed.

  5. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

  6. Oh! The most awaited during Friday! The “First Friday”.

I loved this page, it taught me a lot. I came here a month ago and I learned a lot. The first time I post my blog page for the first month I got 4,000 views. That motivates me and the feedback from the viewers was really a great help.

I will check as much as I can each of your post and I will leave a comment to improve your blog page. “As much as I can”

It’s my 5th week of blogging.
