Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  4. Our blog is still fairly new, and we’re still getting situated and trying to figure out what posts work and what don’t. I published my third post on the blog about 16 hours ago, but it hasn’t gotten as much attention as other posts. I was wondering if anyone could tell me their opinion on the post? Feedback (good and bad), is much appreciated. Thanks! –Julia

  5. Hi All,

I just found this post and am loving some of the blogs so far! What a great way to network! I’m very new to blogging (only 3 posts so far) and would love any constructive feedback. To be honest, I’ve never really done any kind of writing in the past and tend to wonder if my blog is engaging and interesting! This is a horsey blog all about my personal experiences with horse ownership. I’m no professional, just a normal every day horse rider. Thanks

  6. Like a lot of things in life, we despise something because we know too little and we make judgements before we can understand more. History has told us how people’s assumptions have led to family feuds, apartheid, ethnic cleansing and wars.

Traveling has taught me huge lessons and I hope you can enjoy this piece of story from Bucharest:

    1. Your blog looks well put together and it’s easy to navigate. You have a lot of useful widgets that add an extra touch to your site, in terms of increasing traffic flow, there are many ways you can achieve this, one of them is through using the Community Pool which you’ve already done, but to maximise what you could gain, I’d suggest giving feedback to other bloggers.

    1. I have noticed that you are seeking for attention at many places, it is rather superfluous. Nonetheless, here comes some critique, embrace it, learn it, be the best version of yourself when you are blogging. Numero uno, your posts ideas and structure are rather not so strong, read more, try to imitate some good writings into yours, and people will start to flow in. Second, you are reblogging too much on yourself, and generally if you are reblogging, in my context, that makes me feel like you are out of ideas to write, which makes your blog less interesting to browse through. Thirdly, you need not to post multiple times in the community pool, let other people have a go, people are not interested in multiple repeated comments from the same person, try to interact more with other blogs rather than yourself. Hope to see more of a change from you. Have hope, write on!

      1. I’ve received only positive feedback on My Instruction Manual until now, so it’s refreshing to get something that challenges me more. Thanks for taking the time.

        Some thoughts on your feedback:

        1) Since this page is called the Daily Post, I thought it was appropriate to post one link per day. I try to post feedback on at least two blogs for every post of my own that I share here, Thanks for the feedback that it seems like I’m sharing too many of my own links.

        2) Yes, I have been reblogging my own posts sometimes on days where I don’t post something fresh. Your feedback that maybe I’m doing it too much is something for me to think about.

        3) I’m sorry my writing doesn’t work for you, but I’m encouraged that so many other people have told me they found it inspiring. I’m writing about my own journey post-transplant, so I probably won’t take your advice about trying to copy other writers. I’m going to keep writing in my voice.

      2. What you hear from the comment sections may not be true, I mean those positive comments are usually to just make you feel good, not that your work is really good. That’s what I had learned. The numbers of your page tell you more honestly than the feedback from your readers. Nonetheless, actually my last point is to try some new writing styles, and make your writing more prominent.
Hope this ‘negative’ feedback is no offence to you but a springboard to your blog. I just want to help you to be clear from those ‘fake’ voices out there. Feel free to drop by my blog and I expect some critique on it too. Thank you. 😊😊😊

      3. Hello zeckrombryan,

I appreciate the time you took to give feedback to Keith above, and as his response suggests, it sounds like he found parts of it useful as well — which is wonderful, and what the Community Pool is all about.

That said, I’d like to ask that you stick to a friendlier, more charitable approach when providing input here. The collegial, supportive atmosphere in the Pool sets it apart from many other online forums, and we care a great deal about keeping it that way. So while comments on a blogger’s writing, site layout, and any other relevant aspects are welcome, suggesting that the praise a writer receives isn’t genuine, or pointing out that a person is “seeking for attention” is counterproductive.

Thank you for your cooperation and for your continued engagement in the Community Pool.

      1. THank you. I had a conversation with my father today about how he wants to be more aware of the world around him-take in the color of each room, remember a tone of voice or pay closer attention to other details we don’t let in…he kind of invented his own form of mindfulness. And you can’t do all that with your phone attached to your hand. Again thanks for your kind words you always have the nices thing to say but I hope my article did not sound negative.

A quick tip. Personally, it is based on priority, if you prioritise something, for example blogging, you would make it happen. For instance, if you post twice a week, make sure you do write more during your free times, keep those extras as drafts and as a contingency when your week really goes wild on you and you have no time to write at all.

      1. Thanks for the advice and encouragement! Unfortunately I can’t make this a priority at the moment as I’m trying to complete my PhD thesis, but I hope I can spend more time on my blog in the future!
