Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Week two of my challenge to write and post at least once a week. And I feel immensely proud that I am staying on the path; here is this weeks post:
    http://howtoaddict.com/embrace-the-grind/

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for last weeks comments and reactions. It is so much easier to find will to write and post when you are surrounded by other quality people. I can only hope we’ll be in touch every week 😉 Looking forward to your feedback on my post and blog!

    2. Great post. People only see your successes, but few see your grind. The grind is a very lonely road that so many never travel because they are unwilling to struggle to earn their success, they want it handed to them and they look for the easy path. During my own personal grind I have lost 120 pounds. The grind is where we learn our lessons and find what helps us be successful and what leads us to fail.

    3. I LOVED this post. I had to learn to this for myself very quickly when I got out of school. It is one of the most crucial keys to success in my opinion. Thank you for bringing attention to it!

    1. I do believe there are some objective limitations to human potential. Like – no matter how hard I tried there is no way I would be able to run 100m faster than Usian Bolt.

But people focus too much on that 0.00001%. Find a way to live good life if you are in top 2-5% of the field. Now, that’s something everyone can do and where “impossible is a dare” plays big role. Maybe 2% of population can run 100m in 12-14 seconds… but anyone that’s relatively young and puts their mind to it – will be able to do it. And will be rewarded with healthier body and happier outlook in life.

Thanks for your thought provoking post and keep it up!

    2. “Something is only impossible until someone does it”. So many advancements have been made because someone said that something was impossible. It was impossible for man to fly, and now millions of people are flying everyday. But like howtoaddict said, their are limitations to how far you can go, but just because it might be impossible for you doesn’t mean that it can’t be done.

    3. So many things seem impossible until you give it a try. I know for me, I just needed someone to help me try those things I felt were impossible. Of course, there are going to be things that are indeed impossible in life but everything is worth a try?

    1. I commented on the post. It’s really interesting and I like the pie chart. It would be cool if you added in some different time management strategies or time audit apps to show how others could do this sort of thing.

      Liked by 6 people

      1. Time audit app, what a nice idea! I’ll have to look into those.

I so want to do more research about time management, but ironically… I don’t have enough time. ^^; But it’s a good idea for a future post.

        Thanks a lot!

    2. Loved this post, left a comment more in depth on your page. Love that you added in the chart to show how you spend your weeks, I don’t know if I could even do that with how unplanned my days are. Ha ha.

    1. That was a fun story. It deserves a sequel, perhaps even a prequel. One thing seemed odd in your choice of words, “Rudyard’s ginger face…
Gingerly, Rudyard…” They seemed to clash since they look and sound the same but have unrelated meanings. https://gracelead.co

      Liked by 3 people

      1. Thank you, yes, I’ve already had a request for a sequel on my blog! I DID notice the similarity in those two words but quite liked it, so let it stand. A matter of opinion I suppose. 🙂

  3. Hey Everyone,
I posted this comment on community pool last week and, as someone pointed out, I forgot to link to my blog. That community pool has closed so I thought I would put it here.
Anyways, I got a comment from someone who had read my blog saying that they weren’t able to leave a comment on my blog. If you don’t mind could you go over to my blog and check if you can leave a comment. I would really appreciate it.

      2. Don’t worry, I do that ,too! Yes, I can see it now. I would try to get rid of that error message if you can, so new readers don’t think that their comment didn’t go through, so you won’t potentially lose readers.

  4. Hi everyone, happy Monday!

This is gonna be more of a PSA than anything. I posted today about a book I love with all my heart. I think it’s wonderfully creative, but sales were poor when it was first published 2009, so the sequels have been constantly pushed back.

The book is Shades of Grey (no not that one) by Jasper Fforde.

I know we’re all book lovers here, so if you’re looking for an interesting read, please check it out!! Trust me when I say you’ll want more sequels just like me.

Here’s my post if you want more information: http://wp.me/p8eD4m-t2

    Thanks!

      1. This is an interesting piece; it has the makings of a serial with a lot of room to move around in, like who the Keepers are, or why there’s a wall and books have been banished. Good luck.

    1. Oh, I loved Shades of Grey! His Thursday Next/Eyre Affair series is brilliant too. If you haven’t read them yet, they may help fill the void until SoG Book 2 comes along 🙂

      Confessions are so hard
      That I not only procrastinated
But saw it in my best interest
      To avoid them completely….”

YES! I have felt this before, well said. I would love to hear the backstory sometime.

    2. With your disclaimer, I expected to see a jumbled mess; however, what I saw was delightful. It brought incidents from my past to mind. The flow was smooth and comfortable, unfolding in a pleasing way. If this is what you call an outburst of thoughts, I recommend having more outbursts 🙂 . https://gracelead.co

    1. Interesting post. I’m fairly new to FB and in a few groups but I don’t know how many more I’ll be joining, really. I’m not in love with the fact that strangers online can know my full name, picture and some other facts from my profile. That’s more information than I give on my own blog.

  7. Hello,
I started my blog just over a month ago because I got scared of the fact everyone’s going to uni and starting their lives whilst i’m here on a gap year not knowing what I want to do. I thought I love to write and read so why not start a blog and so I got the courage too. I don’t know where this will go but i’m writing about travel, health and food and funny snippets of my life so if you’re willing to give it a read then please do.
I’d love to hear what people think. Hope you’re having a wonderful day.

I left a comment on your blog.

p.s. taking a gap year was the best decision I ever made. I hope you have a fun year and that it’ll help you decide what to do so you can be more sure and excited when you move on to the next part of your life.

      2. I think the chance to work (for the experience) and see the world while you’re young is really helpful if you decide to study later. Plus it’ll help you be sure your next move is what you really want to do.

Anyway. Good luck right back ‘atcha.

I’m afraid I don’t know anything about hokey, so I have no idea about the contents… But it is a really easy to follow layout.

I hope some hokey fans find you!

    2. That’s a cool niche! This is the first WordPress.com hockey blog that I found. I have no idea about hockey, though. It’s a good layout, but I would play around with it. Try to be creative, maybe add a hockey puck background or something – but it’s just a suggestion. Overall, nice blog!
