First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Wow! I’m a little in awe, that was beautifully written and I got a little teary. I know that feeling off desperately clinging on to being “okay”, I relate to that so so much. I’m so glad you’re voicing your thoughts and feelings, it took me a long time to realise I was doing myself an injustice by minimising my feelings. You’re very important and so are your thoughts✨💛

    1. Hello and welcome to the blogging community!! Travel blogs are so awesome for a couple reasons, in my opinion: it allows the author to share his or her own experience, give a personal account for those experiences either through written communication or pictures (or both!), and it always makes me want to get out and see more of the world. I personally think you did awesome for your first post! I look forward to more and wish you all the best with your next update. And thank you for sharing such lovely writing and pictures. Cheers! 💫

      1. I agree. There’s so much to see in this world and experiencing some part of that through someone else’s eyes is like a wonderful journey.
Glad you liked it and thankyou for your kind words. Comments like yours are truly a source of encouragement to keep writing more. Cheers! ^_^

    1. Loving the style of your blog, a simplistic one. And love the way that you write, and the way that you bring out your posts to the readers. A cover picture for your blog is imperative. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

    1. Really love the style of your blog, really inspirational and motivational. Loving the theme that you have chosen for your blog. A little footnote, your about page needs some of your information xD. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

    1. I’ve experienced that as well. Very nicely written! I would recommend adding a “read more” tag on your posts so it doesnt take too long scrolling down(:

      1. Thank you for reading:) and I appreciate the feed back

        2 questions for you. .

1.) how do you add the “read more” tag

2.)i noticed in your latest blog you have like an “excerpt” section. Its like a separate section of verbiage but still part of the blog. How do you do that?

      2. 1) When you write your posts there’s a tab that looks like dashed line icon. You can insert the “read more” tag where-ever you see fit!

        2) If I understand correctly, I think you mean the header! To create a header just highlight the verbiage you wish and change it from “paragraph” to “Header 1/2/3/4”

        Hope that helps!

      3. Oh my bad! To do that, just highlight the text and click the quotation mark icon. That is “block quoting” the words.

    1. Congrats on your fellowship Madi!
By the way WP limits tags to 15, so you may want to use your tags wisely. If you need any other blogging tips, take a look at my latest post as I’ve just written about my first year learning here. All the best

    1. Hi Beth, welcome on board! You have a text widget on the side of your blog which you can remove if you don’t need, it makes your blog looks neater. Look forward to hear about your Aussie adventures!

    1. Hiya, you have a lovely blog and I love your piece about disappointment, something that a lot of bloggers go through initially. My latest post on my first year learning talks a bit about this as well. Do check it out as I also included some other insights and tips.

    1. Hi Joelle, welcome on board.
I think the time of posting depends on which time zone most your readers are (if you can tell). First thing in the morning is probably not the best time when everybody is busy with work and other stuff. Also I found that posting on Fridays and weekends seems to attract less traffic.

As to posting schedule, there are two school of thoughts on that (as always!) . That’s something I just talked about in my latest post on first year learning. Please do take a look to see if it helps.

      Good luck!

    1. Hi Mikee, welcome on board, I’ve been around for a year now, but everybody needs support!.

Your blog is very refreshing and interesting I’d love to follow it, but you don’t have the follow button, only the subscribe button

    1. Its a great post, must have taken you a lot of determination to do that. My comments are:
      – try breaking up your post into paragraphs or ever images, its quite tiring to read a big blop of writing
      – it would be a good idea to include an About page so people know what your blog is about, or is it just going to be about you and your ex

If you need any blogging tips in general, check out me latest post.
Again, applaud you for being so brave!
