To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Hey nice first post and the blog! Good work. However noted a text widget on your blog which needs an edit, also the social icons needs to be linked to your social channels!
      Good luck post more!

      1. OK… go to your blog… scroll down to footer right side, you see 5 icons… starting from facebook F. Now decide if you want to have link from here to your facebook or not.. If no.. then its simple you could just delete them, or you can link them… to do both ..follow the steps below..
First go to … “My Sites” .. top left… then choose “Themes” … “Customize”… Now your blog design becomes editable..scroll down again to your social icons… there will be a “Pen” icon… click that … now it will take you to Social Pluggin editor… now you should be able to delete the whole plugin, or some icons, and link them to your social channels..
Hope that helps… let me know if you need further help… cheers!

    2. I really enjoyed your post. I love that you want to share your experiences with others, I am the the same way concerning dealing with MS, depression and life struggles in general! Keep it up, you’ve got a new follower!

    3. Hey, I found your content very relatable. Someone already mentioned the text widget, so you know about that. I would also recommend adding an avatar/profile image so that we know who we’re relating to. Great start!

      1. I understand about not wanting to identify yourself on your blog. I did that with all the blogs I had in high school and college. Even an image that you feel symbolizes you would work if you want to stay anonymous. The text widget is just whatever you want it to be. It comes standard on the layout. You can remove it by customizing the template and going to widgets and removing it from your sidebar.

      2. On my blog I included a subscribe option. But you can choose any of the widgets that WordPress gives as an option. Some people include an about me or a blog archive too.

    4. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the right of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

      1. Anything you want! Or you can remove it altogether. People often use them to share a little welcome/introductory message for new visitors; it can be a really nice way to share a little more about yourself and get people interested in your blog.

    5. I really enjoyed reading your blog! I can relate so much. Life is a struggle everyday but we choose to face those struggles no matter what right? That’s what makes it “fun” hehe

      1. Half the time when I’m at home I’m not even dressed. I’m completely comfortable and doing my own thing, so I think it is only polite to call first! I particularly despise solicitations of any kind. My husband won’t let me put up a big sign yet, but I’m still trying to talk him into it 🙂

    1. Hey nice blog and initial posts!, just want to point out couple of things.
You have a menu called stories, but that is not showing anything, it should show your main page. You also have social icons they need to be linked to your social channels…
      Good luck, and keep posting!

    1. Hey Jenna, nice blog and initial posts, you have chosen a nice theme too.
Just one suggestion, since your posts are long ones you may consider adding “Read More” tags to your posts so that one a few lines of your post shows up on the home page instead of whole post. That also looks good and tidy.
Keep posting more .. Good luck!

      1. I’d considered doing that, but I’m personally a fan of the Tumblr effect when interacting with blogs. But you’re, right, I should think about the audience. I’ll give read more tags a try. Thanks for the advice!

      2. Agree with you, but any new visitor would like to see many posts at a glance before he/she decides to follow you. The homepage with birds-eye view would greatly help … well that’s my opinion.. 😀
        Cheers!

    1. Hey MoMo, nice blog and posts! Liked the way you write! Nice topics too. Theme you have there is very nice and fits your blog well..
Only suggestion is to link those social icons to your social channels if any or remove them if not needed.
Rest all looks great.. Keep posting and good luck!

      1. Just go to “MY Sites” and then Theme … Customizer…. then click on the pen icon on your blogs social icons … that should open up the configuration settings …. you can update it to reflect your social channels…
Try it … if there is a problem let me know.. I will help. Cheers!

    2. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

      Welcome!

It literally made my day! 😄 I believe the concepts you’ve decided to write about are a solid platform. I wish you all the best! Thank you so much for sharing!

    1. You write so fluidly, I wish I could do the same, but enough about me – let’s talk about Me! – Great about page, btw. So, I think you could shop themes and grab a different one. But don’t take mine!

    1. Great start too your blog! I really like the theme, I think it matches your content very well. My only comments would be that there is some template text (like expert from first blog pots) left on some parts of your blog. Overall, great first post!

  3. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

  5. Hello everyone,

Thanks for the opportunity to share my first blog post with you. It’s about a challenge I’ve set myself to write a piece of very short fiction every day for a month and post a few at the end of each week via a blog post. Once this challenge is finished, I’ll be blogging about writing and reading. All comments and suggestions would be very welcome, as I’m brand new to the blogging world!

    Thanks x

    1. Hello!! What a phenomenal writing prompt to give to yourself!! And I must congratulate you on a splendid first post! 🙂 I’ve been blogging over a month now, and have been writing for a potential blog about three months prior to making it (if that makes any sense haha!), and at first I was writing flash fiction, short stories like yours. I hope you stick with it and enjoy the stretching of the muscles! I wish you luck and look forward to more soon. Thanks for sharing!

      2. I’ve been writing since before I knew grammar and sentence structure, have been blogging just over a month, and I don’t know of any situation during that timeframe where it’s not been nerve-wrecking! I’m happy to know everyone has been kind to you! And I’m glad to be one of them. I think feedback is the best part of being a writer. 😄 I believe you’ll continue to get feedback.
