First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Hey. there is some placeholder text on the right sidebar of your blog which you can remove using the “text widget” option in your theme customizing panel. Your writing is really motivating and raw, yes I too hope for the twin flame in my life. Keep writing. Cheers!

    1. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

      1. I didn’t realize it was tags and categories combined! Thanks so much will definitely cut my tags down further. 🙂

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.

      Here’s your homepage: https://mywordsoup.wordpress.com/

Looks like you haven’t given your site a title yet! If you’d like to add one (we recommend it), you can do that my going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity.

      1. I spent several hours on it this morning, but it’s not as user friendly for me as I would like. I thought lovepeaceandlavender was the site title. I saw the words site title was still on it, but wasn’t sure what to do.

  1. Hello again everyone, I forgot to ask in my first comment, I would like to ask for suggestions, and comments/critics for my blog that would help me improve, what do i need to work on, and how can I become a better blogger. My niche is about empowering and uplifting other people who are struggling to overcome the pain of being cheated on, break ups, divorce, and grief of the loss of their child. I’ve been with that situation and I thought I wont be able to overcome it, but I did. This is the reason why I started my blog, I also want to invite you to share your stories in my blog to help and inspire others, that they too can overcome any struggles in life.
here’s my link, http://wp.me/p8Jpyo-6 looking forward for all of your support. Thank you. please do follow me and i will return the favor.

    1. Great start, I like where this is headed. I can’t remember if I’ve watched Following, but now I’m curious and want to check it out–which in my opinion means you’ve done your job as a reviewer 🙂 I’ve been thinking of doing reviews as well, but but I love books, movies and TV. . . how do I focus on one lol.

Remember to set up that ‘about page. Can’t wait to see this grow.

  2. Hi all,
After years (I mean years) thinking about stories and characters I’d like to write about, or telling fairy tales to my kids, I’ve finally started writing some flash fiction in a Google Group. I posted them to my new short fiction blog this week and am eager for reactions. My poor husband is supportive but there is only so much he can do to feed my enormous and oversensitive ego! I welcome compliments and cheering, and I will be crushed by criticism, but I will also listen and learn from it, so bring it on!
Also, if you ask for my review, I will provide a thoughtful editorial response.
This is the link to my second post. My first introductory post was pretty dull. https://elbycloud.wordpress.com/2017/05/16/the-lily/

    1. I’ll check out your site, but just wanted to say that there are several flash fiction sites where bloggers write an article from a given photo prompt. Looking forward to reading some of your stories.

    1. Hi. I checked out your blog. I think you have a good start, but if you intend to be a travel blogger, I would reccommend focusing on travel related topics and details that might be useful to other travelers (think of things you were researching before taking your trip). You have a review of the motel, which is good, but maybe add more details about places you reccommend, prices, etc. As of now, your posts focus more on your personal experience rather than your travel experience, which is fine if you want your blog to be more of a personal story! It just depends on your intentions and what direction you want to steer your blog (:

      1. hey thanks sooo much for this advice. I been thinking similarly to you but I think I want my blog to be more about stories that happen than tips. I will be adding tips and stuff like that from my previous and upcoming trips. But thanks so much. I really appreciate it 🙂

  4. Hi, I started blogging last week on a smartphone.
I was institutionised for 12 years and have missed out on the world of technology and find it difficult to follow WordPress prompts on how to display my page.
    Bear with me.
    Cheers Mo

  5. I had written a job-inspired post a while back but only recently decided to try to create a regular routine of blogging. I’m up to about 5 posts I believe and trying to find what direction I want to stick with (I have such a smorgasbord of interests maybe I’ll just continue to run with them all – travel, healthy alternatives, FOOOD and recipes. Any feedback would be awesome! I’m also hunting for blogs to follow with similar interests (especially in the Southeast US, we’d be nearly neighbors haha). Anyhow, here goes:

  6. I’d like to wish you all success in this new adventure. I’ve been blogging since Jan 2012 and it’s been so much fun.

New bloggers sometimes ask, “How often should I post?” Here’s my opinion; hope it helps someone:

Definitely once I week. The more you write, the more you’ll feel like writing. The less often you post, the easier it will be to let the whole thing slide. Been there, done that. Posting twice a week is good, every other day is great, every day is super.

Be a courteous blogger; don’t flood your reader’s Inbox. If you publish four posts a day, chances are only two will get read. Likewise with long posts that cover several topics: better to divide them into several ‘bite-sized’ posts than have your readers give up partway through. Most of us lead busy, active lives and have more to do than read blog posts all day.

If you have lots of ideas for posts, write them and save them in your word processor. We all have times when life calls us away from blogging for awhile. Then you can pull one of your saved posts up and publish it. Or you can schedule these posts and keep your blog active while you’re otherwise occupied.

    All the best, everyone.

I started my blog a couple of days ago because I got scared of the fact everyones going to uni and starting their lives whilst im here on a gap year not knowing what I want to do. I thought I love to write and read so why not start a blog and so I got the courage too. I dont know where this will go but im writing about travel, health and food so if youre willing to give it a read i’d love that and to hear what people think. Hope youre having a lovely day.
