First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  1. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share you first post or a post from your first month of blogging, or leave a supportive comment for a new blogger, please head to the Community Pool (https://wordpress.com/dailypost/category/community-pool/), which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

    1. Hey guys. I am new. English isn’t my native language. So you’ll see there are not many vocabs I use in my post, but I’m trying. I love being descriptive but because of my lack of English vocabulary I find it difficult. I love post about ideas and thoughts, self-improvement. I don’t have anything specific on my blog. I write whenever i feel like and about anything that pops into my mind. Feel free to visit

    2. Hello Everyone! I am a new blogger writing about my life experiences and views on the world around us. I want to be able to show my passion towards things without stumbling upon my words like I do in daily life. I recently wrote a post that I poured my heart into and would be so grateful if you checked out as I really want to raise awareness to the cause.

      2. I like your work. The blog is off to a great start and you sound quite mature for a 15 year old. The title is especially interesting: life can be kept simple but many people just don’t figure out how.

    3. Hey everyone. I took a break from work to travel Europe for 3 months! I wanted to use this platform to write about my experiences and share them with friends, family and others who either don’t have the same opportunity and those who think they can’t travel for whatever reason. I’ve treated this as an open journal of sorts and would love to see what you all think. The first post is leaving New York and it goes on from there. Thanks!

  2. Hey new friends! Just wanted to welcome you and give you a little pointer. When posting on forums like First Friday and Community Pool, instead of just posting your link and hoping for the best, give a little detail of what your blog is all about. This way, if people are interested in your topic, they are more likely to check out your site. Happy blogging!

      1. Hi Astha,

I have gone through a couple of your writings. They are honest and great.

        Few suggestions from me
        1) Streamline your thoughts and decide what contents each of the paragraph should carry.
2)Read, re-read and read every word loud to avoid spelling and grammatical errors.
3)Take is slow, don’t be in a hurry to post.

        Welcome and Happy Blogging.

    1. Very nice post … 🙂
Just two things – somehow I didn’t find the “like” button in the post, I guess you check the page url.
And the other thing – It’s good if you use only a few tags and one or at the max two categories, because WordPress spams posts with too much tags and categories (counted together).
      Keep it up…. 🙂

    2. OMG! I don’t know, maybe I am in such a good mood today or your piece was just that fantastic cos I was able read every paragraph like am editing my post..haha. I usually don’t like long post without pictures… but I liked yours. Lets start with always add pictures that tells your story. It’s just makes people like me stay I like the fact that you put paragraphs properly and finally your conclusion was perfect.
Overall it is an amazing piece. I left my comment on your piece already. You have got my attention and follow cos I resonate with your story.

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the right of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

    4. 1. The content is great, its motivating and inspiring, the emotions are very well laid out. I’m looking forward to your future posts.
      2. There’s text widget on your sidebar which you need to remove
      3. I cant find your like button
      4. The whole of your post is displayed on your home page which makes it really lengthy , if you can use a “readmore” widget or a theme which displays your posts in the form of tiles?squares where you on clicking the post will be displayed on a new page that would be great.
      5. I only found the Home page in your site. Do you have the “about” and “contact” page?

      Liked by 5 people

      1. Thankyou for the review. I do have a about and contact page but it does not consist of much information yet.
I will just add on some widgets that can help the visitors.
I am not able to know why people are not able to find the like button but there are a few likes on my posts and I can’t get to the base of the problem. I hope to resolve this issue soon.
Thanks over-all. It was of a great help.❤

Yes do add some widgets and try checking your post in the reader section of the WordPress to see whether the like button is showing up or not. Glad to have helped. and you’re welcome. And yeah, if you can , would love some feedback on my recent blogpost. Here’s the link : https://digantamisra1.wordpress.com/2017/05/19/upheaval/

    2. Your photos are amazing. My only suggestions are to add some photos into the blog posts to break up the text. You could also add subtitles to the paragraphs, it breaks it up further and is good for SEO if you use keywords in the subtitles. Great job overall. I’m looking forward to following you. I absolutely support you on being against the unjust discrimination of someone whose height doesnt correspond well enough to his/her age. Its disheartening to see such low mindset of people. But I loved your content. However you can keep a site title and you need to remove the text widget which you can by using the theme customizing option and get your about page written up. But next time try go to the person’s page, show interest in the his/her posts then ask. Gives the person more gear and boost (energy) to take time and review.

    3. Great start Dera. Your home picture makes me long to go to the beach and your determination message is motivation.

One thing to consider, as most people are viewing on mobile devices and trying to read quickly, typing in letter case vs. all caps. Letter case just makes your work easier to read as the eye can automatically recognize the shapes of word and flow quickly. All caps makes everything blocky and we have to slow down and really look at each word. Maybe its the ADD in me that finds it hard to focus on the blocks.

Now, to make your blogging experience a better one, just as you’re fixing things around your new home to make it more like a home, so should you do with your blog; it’s going to be a home of sorts for a while, so why not make it comfortable for you? Spend an hour or two (have your favorite beverage handy) in the Customizer adding site titles, fixing text Widgets, putting things in your About Me page, and just getting to know your theme. Fix colors, maybe even test out new theme/color combinations…? Just have fun, really. It’s your blog, it’s your home, why not make it home-y?

    1. There’s no secret recipe to get more followers. Its a barter system here, you read, like or leave feedback on other’s blogs, they do the same in return. So you gotta read , find people, participate in Community Pool on Mondays and First Friday on Fridays. And your writing is very motivating, and is deep and raw with an intense tone. However I noticed you dont use categories, using categories can prove to be beneficial as it helps in getting more attention. Keep writing as always. Cheers!
And also while pasting your link here in the comments kindly add a http before the link as it makes it more easier for everyone to access your site with one click

You could even use your company branding as part of your banner or even your profile picture. Of course, I’m not particular good at business advertisement, so take that bit of advice as you please.
