Community Pool

The place where bloggers give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Congratulations. And that seriously looks like an amazing adventure, a part of which you are. All the best for the future. Captivating images. I really enjoyed the post throughout. The layout and the menus is perfect and just complements your organized blog. Keep writing. Cheers! (Well I’m not gonna leave behind a link to my blog cause that would such a gesture of spamming; but if you could, would love a feedback on my blog. I hope you have a good read. Thanks)

    2. Sounds neat. I have a minor in journalism and those were some of my favorite classes. Heading over to your blog now.

    3. Really enjoyed your blog! I am definitely going to repost the lessons you learned this last year. I think a lot of my students (past and present) will benefit from what you have learned.

    4. Congratulations! After reading your post, journalism is now something I’d like to pursue. I might just squish in some historical event talks into my blog whenever I can, because I’d just like to see how I am with that.

    5. Congratulations on finishing your first year, looks like you’re off to a good start. I worked on a weekly drawing cartoons and submitted a few editorials; the best advice I got about writing was to read a lot, especially things outside of my own interests like fiction and poetry.

    1. I checked out your blog and see you got a whack of comments. Good for you. But you don’t have a LIKE button — at least I didn’t see one — so I’ll leave my LIKE here.
Another thing: It surprises me that you only have a “Tweet” sharing button, when you’re on Facebook and Pinterest. I don’t know just how important those buttons are, but I didn’t even see a Reblog button. You might want to look into this.
You’re allowed up to fifteen tags/categories, and could have also used Personal, Writing, and Internet for this one. Hope this bit of feedback helps.
      All the best.

      1. I believe the like button only shows through the WordPress Reader, I wasn’t able to find a plug in to add to the site. I will definitely have to look into the sharing buttons because I thought they were all on there. Thank you for letting me know. I’ll have to add a few more tags. I really appreciate your feedback!

      2. Been awhile since I dealt with this, but I think if you go into the General Settings, there’s a place where you’re asked what feedback you want, if you want to be notified every time someone likes a post. Your Like button should show for every post, though. If not, contact Support.

    2. Thank you for these insights. I like your clear and concise writing style. I need to look into the Facebook blogging groups. I have also started sharing images with the link to my posts on Instagram and found it helpful.

    3. Wow I live the tips on how to get more views and followers. I am also trying to learn more about Pinterest (it’s harder then it looks) but I really appreciate the advice. very well written.

      1. That’s understandable! I didn’t want the post to be too lengthy so I just referred everyone to choosemyplate.gov which has a number of sources of protein for people with various diets. If you haven’t already you can check out my previous post on hemp seeds to learn about one of my favorite sources of protein on a vegan diet! 😉 Thanks for sharing!

    2. I enjoyed reading your post and found it informative in dispelling some of the myths about protein out there. This is especially true about the thinking out there that if we eat more protein, it will not turn into fat. Good post.

    1. “I broke my horns and torn my wings
To hear your voice , the way it sings”- the best line in the medley of all beautiful lines you have composed. The rhyming pattern , the emotions were all perfectly put. It was beautiful . Loved it throughout and your blog is so systematic, loved the layout. Keep going. Would love if you could give a feedback about my blog, there’s a poem which I had written titled as “Sailor” (though it nowhere matches the exquisite level of your writing) but some comments will be really appreciated . Thanks . Here’s the link to it- https://digantamisra1.wordpress.com/2017/04/29/sailor/

      1. Ha ha, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for checking it out and commenting.

Incidentally I’ve published five posts of excerpts. Each has 20 short extracts from stories on my blog. They are under ‘excerpts’ in the menu at the top of every page, but two you might care to look at are the supernatural and horror ones:

  2. Happy Monday guys!
Hope you guys had an amazing weekend, and a very happy mother’s day to you all. This is the link to my latest story, which is about the lives of the dwellers of a forest reserve in India. This story reflects the hardships of the simple tribes men, which they face in their day to day lives while living in jungle-wetland. I hope you guys love it, and please let me know your thoughts on it in the comments. Here goes the link to the first part of the story ⤵️

    Sundarban, part I.

    Thank you.

    1. Great read. At rare occasions I found you pacing up a bit more than necessary( for example : In the last 3rd paragraph, the ending line “She held her son close” was a bit abrupt and hurried (completely my personal opinion)), but it was great. The essence of India, I could derive the experience, visualizing it throughout. Eagerly awaiting the next 2 chapters . Keep writing. Cheers! Would love some feedback on my blog if you can, here’s the link- https://digantamisra1.wordpress.com

    1. Nice piece of work; that’s some good advice, especially about the need to take from multiple sources. The paragraph about headlines and Saffron was great: Hey You! Look Over Here! 🙂

    1. You did a great job of incorporating it into the text and it feels genuine. And I could be wrong, but I do think best practices state that you disclose first thing that the post you’re writing is a sponsored post. Also really like the look of your site. What theme are you using?

    1. Good for you, opening up can be hard, and you expressed yourself well. And I know it was a deep/dark topic, but consider putting some images in to break up text a little. Also watch your spelling and grammar. I read through several posts and found a few mistakes.
