First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Yum! Your link leads to a page with an empty post excerpt, just to let you know. You can change that on the publishing settings down past all the tags and so on!

    1. Welcome 🙂

Looks like you haven’t given your site a title yet! If you’d like to add one (we recommend it), you can do that my going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity.

      1. Hi Diganta thanks for the support and the feedback will definitely help me in my next post. I had a look at your post as well it’s definitely written with a lot of suspense and that’s great for the start of a very interesting blog. 🙂 Keep up the work and hope to see the next post soon!

    2. So I read your post, I enjoyed it. I just wanna say, please and please don’t let people’s like and follow be the basis for you writing. They will come with time as you meet people that resonate with you and wanna be a part of your journey. WRITE because you choose to, so when you get the follows and likes it just become a plus. Get motivation from this you love around you and write about anything you feel like writing.. there are definitely people out there that will remain and stick with you no matter what. Afterwards, you can access what you think your followers enjoy most and tend towards it often. That’s all I have for you dear. Welcome to WP world.

      1. Thanks so much for the advice. Sometimes I find the hardest thing is to write what I want and not care about what my readers would like. It’s really such a challenging balance. I’m staying true to me though because I think you’re exactly right, people should like you for you and what you add and contribute to the world should be unique and something you cherish and love. I appreciate your comment and the time you’ve taken to respond. I’ll head on over to your blog and indulge for a moment. 🙂 Sending love.

    3. Hello Irene! Welcome to WP. You tell a beautiful story in your opening post. I don’t know how people do that, I suppose when its a matter of survival, you don’t have a choice. Do whatever you can to learn the language, and find work. I’m sure your folks worked hard to made sure you kids always had something to eat 🙂

I look forward to reading more about your blogging journey!

    1. This is a good post. The only issue I saw was with formatting. You have a huge gap between your point #6 and then your keywords. I’d get rid of that empty space so that readers know that there is more and can even “like” your post if they feel so inclined. 🙂 Good luck with your blogging.

      1. Thanks :)! I am definitely seeing that the word of the day is going to be a great tool for me! It will help condition my mindset back into writing all the time, and digging deep when I do so…

      2. Heres it is

        It is an awesome post
The link given by Biko directed me to your post and I loved it and regarding posts, its good that you posted 40 blogs in 25 days. I joined 15 days ago and has 12 blogs so far. Everyday I used to post a blog per day. Later I realised that its better to post a one amazing post than to force your brain to post blogs everyday. People will be excited to read it or else they will like it before reading just to make you feel good. I am not an expertise its just how I feel please take it positively thank you

      3. Thank you. I am definitely still trying to figure out the blogging method that works best for me. My intentions were only a blog a day…but some days as I scroll through and see the word prompt or something like that- my mind is just drawn to participate. It is certainly helping my writing abilities, I believe. I will definitely check out your blog as well!! Thanks again!!

    2. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

      Welcome!

      1. Thank You so much for the advise. Will surely keep that in mind and will reduce the number of tags I use

    3. Hi, and welcome!

We’re glad you’re so excited about your new blog (yay!), and that you shared your link here. We’d appreciate it if you didn’t leave multiple comments linking to your blog — it’s considered a little spammy and we’ll remove the duplicates. The best way to get people to visit you is to visit them and/or leave them some meaningful feedback!

      1. Thanks Diganta! I really enjoyed your post, I left a comment there. Your writing style seems to capture an essence that allows the reader to fill in the spaces with their own feelings. Good stuff!

      2. Your post is amazingly written and I love the humor you put in it! I really like the theme and the way tags are shown at the bottom of the page.

    1. It was great. I liked the fact you added the link to the TED talk. Thats very beneficial. The second thing , this post addresses something very unspoken of yet very common. Lastly, an advice to not use stereotypical biasing in your writings like you mentioned “cause its India” , although it might be true but it puts the image of the nation in a negative curve of the graph for those who are reading your post and are not from India. And you could work up on your theme a bit, remove text widgets and add up your own title to different labels and add up some images along with categories for your posts, which will make your page more systematic.Other than that, rally influential .Looking for more from your page. Cheers!
Would be a huge favor if you could give my new post a read . Here’s the link :- https://digantamisra1.wordpress.com/2017/05/12/cross-border-romance/

      1. Thank you for your kind feedback. And yes, I will definitely now not try to use that stereotypical biasing as you mentioned. I actually used it not to portray the negative side of India but for its people, if you have been to Delhi or place nearby, you would know. But after all that’s a thing which i should never do. Sorry for that i will take care from my next post onwards.

      2. You’re welcome. I’ve been to Delhi myself and I am an Indian, so I certainly know about the citizens. But the thing is the nation is represented by its citizens, which is solely why I mentioned it in my feedback. No need to apologise for it. Your post was really amazing 🙂

    1. Ok .. looks good. Liked the color schemes and the font used. I think you have started well… Check about the following observations. There are text widgets which needs to be either removed or edited, social icons needs to point to your own social accounts. “Home” is not pointing to your blogs page. But good starting… good luck!

    1. Nice blog and topics! Just work on the text widgets on your site, they need to be edited or removed if you dont want. Also you have to give descriptive name of your site. Try to access “My Sites” and then “customize” themes and choose “Site Identity” to add site title etc.

  2. Hi all! I’d posted a link to my first blog about 40 minutes ago, but I’m not able to see it here. Just to clarify, it was a link to my first blog, only I did not post in the “This is an excerpt from your first blog” space. So it looks like it is my second blog, but it isn’t! Please don’t remove my link from this comment section! I’m posting it again.

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.

      1. Yes this one works. Leave the previous one as it is or just add up another comment stating the correct link. I liked your blogposts as they have a very raw and motivating essence about it. However you could add up some imnages to make it look more appealing and edit/ customize the text widgets you have displayed on the right label of your page.

She sometimes looks down on my unwillingness to go to temples, pray and other things, but I try not to let it get me down. I hope to read about your new adventures!
