To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Hi Jaco, what a powerful story, thank you for sharing. Looks like you still have some placeholder text at the bottom that you can get rid of if you customize your widgets

      1. Thank you for reading. I love all of your Muse post. I am so new to blogs in general. As soon as I can get to my PC at home I will fix that text issue. Thanks again for your time. This wasn’t easy for me to do so it really helps.

    2. Hi Jacob, that was indeed a very powerful story. I love reading transparency from other people. Real and raw, it’s so great. I am sorry for your loss, with both Brad and your house. But I am super excited for the future ahead of you!

You do have an unused widget on your side bar and I noticed on your about page that it has yet to be edited. Not sure if this is on purpose or if you are still learning the ropes. There are many help tutorials on here to get you through the first couple of weeks.

All in all, I can tell I will love your blog! You are on to a great start! My only critique would be to run your writing through an editor, especially if you have book in mind down the road, and break it up a little more and potentially write less each time. For this post, I completely understand the length of it and think that it works and was necessary. But stray away from such long post down the line so you can keep your readers engaged.

      Good luck!

      1. Kristen, thank you so much for all of this. This is what I need to hear. I am very new to blogging. I have fixed the widget issue. I am about to work on the About section. I really can’t explain to you how grateful I am for your time. Thanks again.

      2. You’re welcome Jacob. It took me at least 3 weeks before I felt like I had any idea of what I was doing. But each time I wrote or read someone else’s blog, I would find something new and change it. I am still in the construction phase myself, as well as learning how to write better.

Your blog is going to be great!! Good luck 🙂

    3. Great start, Jacob! I guess you know the placeholder texts are to be removed so I’ll only tell you how amazing the story was. I really loved the depth of it. Welcome to the blogging world.💫

    4. Jacob, you have no idea how much your story touched me. And you have no idea how much I can relate. I lost my son late term last July, it hasn’t even been a year yet and I still battle with the rollercoaster of emotions from that time. I empathize with you and your wife. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I pray the both of you continue to stay strong and support each other. It’s the loneliest feeling in the world to lose a child and I am so happy that your story is out there to provide some comfort for those who know what it’s like. Thank you.

    1. You are on the right path! I see you have some general construction to do on your site. Check out the tutorials to help you get everything set up.

I think the idea for your blog sounds great!

      Happy Friday!

      1. Hi Shooting Star. I have gone through your posts. They are very innovative. The way in which your diction flows is same as if I someone is narrating them in front of me.
        Adorable.

      1. Thank you for the feedback for taking the time to look at my work. I’m enjoying reading your blog as well. Still can’t determine how I feel about the one about allowing ourselves to feel our emotions. That’s probably why I like it so much though. It made me think and made me question myself.

    1. What an inspired post! I love your perspective and how relatable your post is! I definitely find myself looking for something to define me, whether its a degree, a job, a relationship, etc. Your thoughts on our relationships with other people are and our relationship with ourselves is definitely thought provoking!

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, to the right of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

  1. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

I have written several posts on my page already but I will post a link underneath to one of my latest posts for your view. I am still new to this but I am working hard on making high quality content for my readers. I hope you enjoy 🙂 The link provided is a recipe for a cake that I had recently tried and it was delicious!!

    1. OMG it looks great, love the rich frosting. I want to eat it right now. I do have one suggestion, if you could add more pictures, perhaps for each stage. Makes it easier to understand the process 🙂

      1. I’m going to be adding more recipes because I love cooking so I definitely will add some photos so that it makes a smoother process! 🙂 Thank you for your feedback it means alot!

    2. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

      Welcome!

    1. Hey there mom! I loved your post. Do you and don’t worry about the rest. Your kid sounds great 🙂 I love the layout of your blog, the purple really makes it pop. I saw that your about page was missing? Not sure if that is on purpose but thought I’d let you know. Good luck!

    1. Your blog sounds like it is going to be full of exciting things to read 🙂 I like the way you have it laid out so far. I see it is still under construction though…your about me page was missing. But you are off to a good start! Happy Friday!

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.
