Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

      1. There is no denying that the letter could have been improved, but I was pressed by time. I’d love to take a poetry course sometimes, I’m sure it would help me improve my prose as well. Thank you!

  1. Hello Community Pool
    James from James Proclaims here.
Remember a blog is not just for Christmas. With that in mind I’ve been blogging like a trooper since 2017 began. Some of my posts are even quite good. Not all of them obviously. But there is a slight possibility that you’ll like today’s post. Why not read it and find out?

  2. Hey everyone!
I blog about writing, how to become better authors/bloggers, and my own stuff from time to time.

I thought you’d be interested to read the advice I got from a Hollywood producer. He’s a writer of fantasy just like me, and his books are being made into a TV series. Here’s the link:

The Advice I Got From a Hollywood Producer

His advice was quite powerful to me! Hope you think so too!

If there’s anything I can do to return the favor, let me know!

    2. Hey, that’s pretty cool. I tend to think is it luck or just persistent and taking an opportunity that presents itself. If you keep taking those leaps and persist, maybe, just maybe, you’ll catch that opportunity. It is a long road though.

      1. Yeah, that’s the thing. You have to use your judgment on discerning what is really an opportunity, and what is a wild-goose-chase. The length of the road is also very daunting. I guess that’s just part of being a writer though!

  3. Hey everyone!

I’d love it if you could take a few minutes to look at my site and let me know what you think (a sly subscribe and share on social media wouldn’t hurt either…). I’m also very happy to return the favour – always enjoy checking out new blogs.

I’m also on the lookout for some help running the site, if anyone’s interested. If you enjoy writing about film/TV/games/books etc., please feel free to get in touch. I’d love to chat.

  4. Howdy!

Because she is such an inspiration to so many, I wasn’t surprised when I managed to pour out 1,000 words all about how fantastic Lady Gaga is, and why she should be one of your role models:

(If you are a Monster or just like Lady Gaga then I think you’ll enjoy that post!)

I would love anyone’s feedback on this series of blog posts I have started doing, called Weekly Round-Ups:

Any comments on my writing/blog layout would also be appreciated too!

    Cheers!

  5. Good afternoon my fellow readers, writers and bloggers wherever you may be. After some time away, I am back!

A huge thank you to my most recent followers and for those who have joined me and stuck with me along the way. It has been almost a year since I released ‘A Hole in Serenity’ and I have received some great feedback so thank you to those who have read it and shared it. For those that haven’t it is still available online as an e book through various online retailers in various different countries.

I am back writing again and working on my first instalment of a new crime thriller series which I will be looking for input on from my followers so watch this space!

Please feel free to check out my blog at http://www.markdraycott.com and please do get in touch with any feedback or questions that you may have.

Take care guys! I look forward to hearing from you soon.

  10. Happy Monday! And Happy Valentine’s Day this week. Here is this week’s blog post.

    http://wp.me/p67Pgs-2cJ

For my blog, I’m looking for some ideas to make it less busy. Also, as blog writers and followers, do you like author updates? Or would you prefer a book review? Just putting some thought into making things a little more interesting on my blog. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

    1. Love that quote! As for the design of your site and a way to maybe make it “less busy”, have you thought about having a white background? On my screen the pink text is a little hard to read on the tan background.

    2. So exciting you’re on your way to having your book published! I am now following. 🙂
One suggestion on the layout is to have some sort of very short summary of what you write about at the top of the blog so new readers know what you’re about as soon as they get to your home page!
I’m looking forward to reading more! 🙂

    1. What an interesting topic! I enjoyed reading!
One suggestion (just in my opinion) is that your font is really small. It makes the post harder to read and took me longer to read it even though I was interesting in the post! Just a thought 🙂

      1. I’ve noticed that too, but because I use an auto-set theme from WordPress, I’m not sure I can change it. I’ve zoomed in (press CTRL + use the scroll button on mouse) to make it bigger, and it has done the trick, but I will look into it further. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

    1. Hi Sibille, I read “Destroy the Monster” and I found it entertaining and full of suspense. It left me very concerned that we didn’t get all of the ‘monsters’. It was a very good read.
