First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

      1. Got it. Extremely close family. I have a lot of cousins too, but we’re all spread out, so I’ve never been super close with any of them. Heck, I’m not even that close with my actual brother!

      1. Thank you kindly. I just scrolled through your blog and I look forward to reading them! What really drew me in was I feel like there’s a story with the box characters.

    2. Really great intro! I started blogging not too long ago and can totally relate to the nerves! Look forward to reading more! Oh, and your piece on BJJ was cool. I’m trying to learn more about it/considering trying it!

      1. Thank you very much. I’m just getting back into it because of my move and it’s so therapeutic that it’s hard to stay away especially when it’s a fundamental martial art that can be used for self-defense. There will be more to come to stay tuned and happy blogging!

    1. You have some great pictures. I noticed on your About page that you have left the generic message. If you don’t plan on using it to talk about your blog, I would just get rid of it. Happy blogging!

    2. Wonderfully written account of the trip to India. One thing I noticed in the paragraph that you start with waking up to the sunrise in Varanasi is, it should be bathing rituals of Hindus not Hindi’s.

    1. Hi @zeckrombryan! First Friday is really for folks who are brand new to blogging. I see you’ve got several posts under your blogging belt and I think you’re ready to visit the Community Pool — a feature we run every Monday where you can invite readers to visit your blog and give you feedback on it.

      1. I am back from a short hiatus. Presumably, i am considered as a new blogger for this new year. In fact, everyone is a new blogger because as we write, we progress. A new us is conjured as we write more and more. Thus, it is appropriate for all bloggers/writers to share their blogs in this avenue.

I think you may have misunderstood the intent of First Fridays. It is an open space for bloggers who have published their very first post within the last month. We’re glad you’re back from hiatus, though with more than 70 posts under your blogging belt, you’ve got quite a bit of experience. The Community Pool is the best place for you, as an experienced blogger to share your posts and ask for feedback from readers.

      1. Hi @Zu-Zu, Welcome! I noticed you’re using a lot of tags on your posts. The WordPress.com Reader filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your work. If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

      2. Thank you for the tip!– I just added tags to all my posts hoping it would get me more outreach, didn’t realize too many tags would do the opposite. Changing my theme now, will edit my tags today.

    1. “Hi, @imyskinner! We’re really glad you’re so excited about your blog (yay!), but would appreciate it if you didn’t leave multiple replies linking to your site — it’s considered a bit spammy, and we’ll remove them in future. If you’re hoping to get folks here to visit and engage with you, it’s much more useful to visit them, and leave them a note or some feedback!”

  2. Hi everyone!

This is my first Friday as an active blogger (for lack of a better word). I’m no professional but I feel good expressing myself in this fashion and I’ve been ready to share it with the community.

Stop by my site and show some support. I’d love to hear your comments, any feedback would be welcomed (I’m still working on the site itself), and I’d love to discover new blogging friends as well

    To a happy weekend!

    1. I am absolutely in love with your design! Gorgeous font choice and the photo is excellent! Don’t stop! Your writing is also good, and your whole site has a very clean cut look too it. It’s hard to have a good balance between minimalism and an exciting pop that will draw in your readers. You guys nailed it!

  3. Hello all! I started about a month ago… my blog is in Spanish, because I live in Spain, but I have added a translator, just in case someone wants to visit. I talk about having a preterm baby in the family

    This is my blog: mamadeunprematuroblog.wordpress.com

    You are all welcome!

    1. Well, couldn’t get much of it, but maybe you wanna make it a bit more visually attractive by adding pictures. Or maybe I’m just saying that cause I don’t get Spanish.
      Overall, it’s a nice blog.
      Cheerios!

  6. I’m a little shy of a month in to my blogging adventure, documenting my “journey to conscious consumerism”. I’m writing about my year of buying exclusively used or local, with some other thoughts, reviews, recipes, and travel stories tossed in along the way. I’d love it you take a moment to check it out! Any and all suggestions/feedback are welcome.
