Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and blogging camaraderie.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

      1. Oh, I see what you mean; same kind of focus on the eyes and hair. I’m actually a bit flattered since he’s a photographer, haha, though his picture is of much higher quality.

I really need to buy a camera and take better pictures of myself. I never really care much about it before, but as a blogger I think it’s important.

    1. Technically lines like “Remember my names; and our many nights?” don’t need semicolons. “Together we grow and we become wise!” works just as well to maintain rhythm.
Also, this is just a personal opinion, but I think it makes more sense to reserve exclamation marks for when you really need them. Seeing them at the end of every other declaration drains the gravity of the statements taken as a whole.
I like that you go for large, universal themes and try to encapsulate them. Nice page header picture, by the way– it sets the mood well.

      1. Nice. Thank you!
This is the most constructive comment I have received so far.
You are right tho. Don’t know what I was thinking when I wrote it. Makes more sense how you put it now.

    1. It’s a nice poem. Any updates on what happened though? Did you completely walk away or is there any chance that what could’ve been could still be something? Just wondering.. 😊😊😊

      1. Even though I did walk away, and looked like a totally idiot 😁, the girl in the poem is trying to make things right, which I really appreciate. I guess time will only tell what will happen, and I’ll be there to see it.

  1. Hey guys,
Started my blog not very long ago, and been blooming in the darkness ever since,

I mostly write exaggerating my daily life into poetry and small chapters of magical stories draped in darkness.

Would be overwhelmed if you guys could pretty please check out my blog and shine some light upon my darkness.

Hoping to find some great blogs and meet a ton of new amazing writers in today’s pool.
    Much love. xoxo

  2. Howdy!

I’m a straving writer finding it hard to make any money/find employment (cliche?)
I wrote this post about how much I miss being part of a community (like the work place) and how I have always found it hard to belong somewhere:

I would love any feedback you have on the post and my site in general – plus any tips on job-hunting!

Also – if you would like to collaborate with me/guest post on my blog, please do get in touch here:

Thank you very much in advance!

    1. I liked this and was going to post a comment but I don’t like to when you have to fill in your details etc. I think that puts a few people off. It was a great post though

    2. Hi Lauren,
I loved this post about community. It really struck a chord as the last year has been hard for me for the same reason, and I’ve been lonely for the first time in my adult life, although i’m a dedicated introvert and hate talking to people so that doesn’t help my cause any lol
Looking forward to reading more of your posts 🙂

      1. Thank you so much Kelly! Sorry to hear you have had a rough year. I’m also an introvert and get very anxious when going to social things, which isn’t helpful when you’re trying to meet new people! x

    3. Great post! But to be honest you could still try to improve the flow of your ideas. Don’t get me wrong, it’s easy to understand but there’s just something missing… Or maybe I’m just reading too many blogs now hehe ✌ I’m not an expert but I know when something is very well written.

Good luck on your job-hunting. I’m sure

  3. Hello Community Pool,
James from James Proclaims here. I seem to have rediscovered my blogging mojo and I’m blogging 3 times a week again after an indifferent 2016. I need positive feedback on my new feature, called ‘Artists Corner’ in which I attempt to pass off a fairly rubbish drawing of mine as art. But feel free to praise my other posts too…

      1. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Also the way you’ve phrased might make people think I’m actually giving away free stuff on my blog which is bound to attract more visitors so double thanks! 🙂

    1. Quite hilarious! I normally don’t have the attention span to read more than a few posts, but your blog sucked me right into a rabbit hole. ♡

    1. Gave you a follow because I liked the overall look of your blog and I like the story you linked here. I’ll check some more of your writing out as well. I liked the economy of words you used here. Sometimes it is what you leave out of a story that makes for the best ones, and you pulled that off here.

  4. The purpose for this space in my blog is to highlight different daily warriors who face life in their own unique way. I hope you liked learning about Sab as much as I like getting to know her more each day. Any feedback would be appreciated.

      1. Thank you so much. I checked your blog too and I like it.. I would have explored more but its 1:30am here in Philippines and I dont want to fall asleep reading or commenting on your posts so I’ll get back to that tomorrow… 😅😅😅

    1. BTW, I put up a page on my daily warriors blog that says “Navigate Armory”.. It lists the categories of my posts… I’m hoping it would be more helpful to others who explore the blog.

I’m not sure if it’s better this way or just have the regular categories with drop down lists..

  5. Hello! I just started a blog and I’m wondering if anybody could tell me how I can edit the html to change the meta tags? If you know nothing about that (in which case, welcome to the club, we have cookies and chai lattes if you’d like to cosy in), then I’d appreciate any feedback on the blog itself if you have the spare minute to pop in. You can find it here: http://www.whendoIgetthemanual.wordpress.com

Thanks in advance for all and any help!

  6. Happy Monday! Just posted my Monday Morning Blog post. It’s a book review of a YA Fantasy novel. The author of the book I am reviewing has given me a free book as a giveaway. I decided to randomly choose a person that comments on the post to win the giveaway. If you know of someone who would like this book, please have them check out the post and comment. Otherwise, if you could check it and the page out, I would appreciate any feedback you may have. Thanks in advance!

  7. Greetings!
I wrote a blog piece this week inspired by advice I give to my children, let alone to other youth about life and what to expect. It’s based on my own experiences as a former stubborn youth now turned much older mother with life experience.
I just want to share for anyone who may need it.

  9. Hey everyone!
Only recently have I turned my blog to travel writing and I can’t decide a focus. This is one of my more recent posts ‘Travel Iceland’:

    https://chiwritesthings.wordpress.com/2016/12/03/travel-iceland

Do you feel I should focus more towards the photography side, the poetry/ descriptive side, or the advice side? Or do you think the three personalities of the blog entry marry well? Very grateful for your thoughts, happy blogging!!!

    1. Hi!

First of all, I love your blog and one I will be following. LOVE the photos.

My blog is somewhat a travel, opinionated, creative, photography (yet I am still a beginner) mix of everything (www.kikalavil.com). I have found that since my blog is somewhat of a mix (with the theme being living abroad), categories and putting my posts under those have really helped the reader try to figure out what posts they would like to follow. I think maybe that could help you, that way you don’t stop your creative juices 🙂 That is just my opinion. Hope that helps you and happy blogging!

  10. Greetings, fellow inhabitants of Earth (even if you don’t belong from here, I don’t mind). Allow me to be tad bit of greedy this time: So, this is a three parter poem I wrote, called ‘Mayhem Or Ecstasy?’ and I’d love some feedback (which is the code word for ‘views’, everybody in the WP community is totally aware of it).
    http://wp.me/p7Klwb-72 Part I
    http://wp.me/p7Klwb-8q Part II
    http://wp.me/p7Klwb-8J Part III
Don’t want to give out spoilers, but I believe almost everybody, who is thriving to achieve something in their lives, would be able to relate to it. Even though this Took a lot of thinking, but I hope (and believe) that you all would make it worth the effort. 🙂
This one was written in, kind of a, lighter mood: It’s something like ‘Blast from the Past’ kind of post, but still worth a read (I guess).
    http://wp.me/p7Klwb-8C
Even though I’m requesting for some ‘feedback’ (*cough, cough*), I’d still love some thoughts and criticism on these writings, as no advice ever goes waste 🙂 (and also because I don’t wanna come off as pompous wallaby).
Now Last, but never the least, thank you for your precious time. 🙂

  11. Hi all!
My normal music/photography blogs are on a bit of a break as I work up some ideas. I got a lot of new music recently so the inspiration should keep me going for some time. In the meantime, a little over a month ago I started a new ‘Photo Only’ section of the blog called Monochrome Mondays. Appreciate any comments, likes or follows!
