First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Welcome! FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s main page and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that. Here’s your site: http://francisfrankblog.wordpress.com/

I also noticed that your blog’s home page has lots of placeholder text on it. You can find your theme’s details here: https://wordpress.com/themes/sela — it’ll help you learn to customize and configure all the parts of your home page.

    1. “you are strange in your choices” made me think of fate/luck – coming and going, passing over some, gracing others. it also made me think of someone who found a great pperson in their life and then left just as things were starting to get good. Thanks for posting!

    1. Welcome! You might consider adding spaces to your blog title — you can adjust that by going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity. Just because your address has no spaces doesn’t mean your title has to be the same!

  1. Hey all! First post came out less than a month ago, but not necessarily January. I don’t know if that still counts, but I started my “New Years resolution” of trying to write more, a little early. My blog Hannarchy is something I started because I was sick of feeling fake in a world of people pretending to have it all together. Maybe I can encourage people, make them laugh, or maybe make them think. Anyways, that’s the hope.

    1. Wow! Are you sure you’re only 23? You have the motions of adulting pretty much nailed. And your description of the struggle bus…extremely impactful!

  2. Hi everyone! I have a blog all about my life in and out of ballet! I would love it if you could check it out and I can check out yours too!

      1. No prob! I am raising two tiny dancers (my kids are thirteen and six) both take ballet and jazz. My youngest is so obsessed with ballet, she’s been dancing since she was 2 and a half. Gonna give a follow. They will probably want to read about your journey as well.

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s footer, at the bottom — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

And a tip: include the http:// bit of your blog’s address, and you’ll get a clickable link when you publish the comment. Voila:

    1. Maybe if you had a variety of writings.. short stories, reviews, poems and fashion and beauty stuff you’d have a wider range of readers!

But it’s always up to you to write about whatever you love!
Good luck with your blog! xoxo!

    1. Hey, man. I love your blog, it’s great. But the only things missing, in my opinion, are more buttons for sharing your stuff. You can add more buttons to your posts by going to My Site< Configure < Sharing.
Also, I believe that you may be thinking as to why your blog isn't getting much awareness. That's because, as I can see, you don't use 'tags'. Tags help people to find out about your post. Certain bloggers follow certain tags. And if you give your different posts certain famous tags, like 'photography', 'black and white' etc., then chances are your posts would become known to other bloggers who follow these. You can give tags when you write/make a certain post by clicking on the setting button and in the column 'tags'.
Hope this helped. If you have any other doubts or issues related 'tags', feel free to ask me or just search them in the 'help' section of WordPress.
      🙂

      1. Even I was this way when I first entered this community. But no one told me about this… Had to search a lot to discover these things. There’s a lot more to it. You can search how to expand your blog by searching it all in the WordPress help centre. It really does help.
Glad I could help you, though. 🙂

      2. You right mate, I should do homework to make my blog be seen by others. I started yesterday and made available for public about 10 hours ago and feeling like dropping a drop of water in the sand..again thanks so much.

    2. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find you.

    1. Looks like it’s gearing up to be an important source of information for clients! Your “About” page needs a once over. It’s still set to the generic placeholder template that comes with that blog design. Otherwise, good start!

    1. Look like you’ve posted a link to your preview, which only you can see — make sure you share the link to the public, published post!

(If you’re not sure how to get the correct link, just ask 🙂 )
