First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

      1. I’m nomadic, currently in Nicaragua. I love to hear about places from the perspective of those who live there. Keep writing! I also like your push for personal responsibility. The only way to change corruption in any country is to not be corrupt ourselves and to not accept it around us.

  1. Hey guys! New blogger here, and it would mean alot to me if you drop in and check out my first post. Its the first from a series called “The Cafe Journals”. heres a short synopsis:
“The Cafe Journals” are a series of short stories that revolve around a dingy little diner and more importantly the people who pass through it.
This series, to put simply, is about life and all those pesky little emotions that come with it.
please be kind enough to leave some feedback and i’ll be sure to check out your blogs in return ❤

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar (on the right) — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

    1. Welcome!

One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

(You might also think about swapping out your header image — that photo is actually the default header for another, popular theme, so choosing something else might help set you apart more.)

    2. I love your Christmas blog post, especially no.3 for “create a warm home” as I’m always inspired by cozy spaces and how make home feel relaxing and calm. Please check mine too. If you like it, follow me. Thanks

    2. Just read the post you linked to. Very interesting, although I won’t give my big-sister-like advice on that subject. 😉
What I will do is give you advice on your blog and writing as a whole.

You completed your About Me page! That’s awesome! Most new bloggers don’t do that. However, while you say you are a Hmong American, it seems that English isn’t your primary language. For example, you are a Hmong American woman, not women. (This mistake includes your blog name, unfortunately.) Women is inferring multiple, while woman is only one. It’s a common mistake for bilingual people to make. 😉
If you do want to increase readership in the future, especially to primary English speakers, I would strongly suggest having someone proofread for you. 😉
Good luck with your blog! The most important thing is to keep going!

  2. Fitness Apps

Just posted my firs blog post 2 days ago.
My blog is simply about what a typical university student does. My plan is to post about things i do from cooking, to working out, to studying. I hope it will inspire other university students to find their path.

      1. For the theme, I would suggest choosing something that requires less set-up, and is a more straightforward blog theme — something like Hemingway Rewritten would be nice.

For your site title, you can set one by going to My Site (in the upper left corner), then Customize, then Site Identity. Type your title in there, then click the blue “Save & Publish” button.”

  4. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

    1. Bienvenue!

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s main page and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that. Here’s your site: https://maraisweb.wordpress.com/

    2. Love, love, love it! Your writing is very engaging. My grandmother grew up in Paris and my aunt teaches an advanced French class, so I’ll be forwarding them the link to your blog. I know they’ll enjoy it, too.
