Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and blogging camaraderie.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

      1. Thank you! I also have exams coming up and some other deadlines, but must not think about the mountain I’m climbing and just do the daily work, otherwise I get stressed out.
I love that quote too, and it’s so true in my case. Writing is my therapy. ♥

      2. Tell me about it, every time I make a to-do list I panic! I feel I have a massive mountain to climb in such a short space of time. Both writing and art is my therapy so I always turn to them at such times!

    1. Hi Ida!

I checked your post and I am really inspired by it. I did not join nanowrimo this year because I have too many things on my mind. I might eventually try it, though.

I know you have a set number of words you need per day, but the important part is to keep writing. With your mindset (and with the help of your blog where you keep track of your progress), you’ll get to your goal for sure.

      Best wishes!

      Liz C.

      1. I’m glad it inspired you! Maybe you can try next year? Or there is Camp NaNoWriMo in April or July, and the Twitter Writing Challenges all year long (500 words a day, every day).

Thank you for your comment and my best wishes to you too! ^_^

      2. Oh! Photography is fun too! I looove the YouTube series “Pro Photographer, Cheap Camera” (and basically everything DigitalRev). Well, good luck with whatever you set your mind to do! ^_^

  1. Hi. I recently started a 300 word fortnightly story group. We could still do with a few more members though, so if you might be interested, please drop me a line via the contact page on my blog, To Cut a Short Story Short, and I’ll be happy to send details. If you’d just like to subscribe to the stories (with the option of possibly contributing in the future) then please do likewise (they are sent out by e-mail).
In the meantime, here’s a ‘colourful’ little tale in 200 words, The Real Doctor Lamont, from my blog. I hope you enjoy it!

      1. Hello TM! I won’t be publishing them on my blog (they are sent out by e-mail), although I WILL generally be publishing longer versions of my own 300 word stories, but if you’d like to subscribe to the collections, drop me a line via my contact page and join in if and when you wish! It’s early days right now but I hope to build the group up to something special over time!

      1. Thanks very much – see the above reply! Re the story I linked to, it was one of the first I wrote, but I kinda like it, due to the circular (nightmarish) quality. Not sure how I came up with it really!

      1. Well it never happened with me, though I had mistakenly pressed the send button twice many times but everytime I get the reminder from moderator. May be you are lacking any plugin on your site.

And, as usual, changed up my theme a couple days ago, so looking for feedback 🙂

    1. Hi Jade.

I like that you chose 1 Corinthians 13. Left you a comment on your post.

First thing I noticed on your blog was the header image: black font over gray background. When it comes to font color over a background, I try to use light over dark or vice versa to make it easier to read.

If you check my blog, you’ll notice I used white font over a dark background. It might be a matter of preference, though.

      1. No problem! I think my main issue is I’d prefer my editor to consult with me on the changes a lot more and not just publish straight away. With it being online you can’t change it when it is published

      1. That seems like the type of relationship I want to work within! Unfortunately, the student website I write for only work with editors and they have a habit of changing sentences and adding more sentences that aren’t at all me.

  3. Hello! I’m relatively new to wordpress as I just started heavily posting more content these past few months. I write lifestyle + travel blogs, and take photos and videos.

My latest blog was about a volunteering event I went to, I photographed the event for my best friends job and I edited together a little video at the end. I would love it if you guys gave me feedback and maybe we could connect on similar interests.

    this is my latest blog:

    1. Your blog looks great, and in this new one about the volunteering event, the first image you used of the paper bags is very clever! It made me want to read the article as well. I gave you a follow so I can do some more exploring

    1. Hey, I really liked the concept of the gratitude post. I think so many people forget to be humble and appreciate truely what they have. So awesome that you promote other blogs too! I followed 😊

I like the photo too, I found it like the perfect one for my blog site!! 😀

    1. That is such a sad and moving story. I am sorry your family had to experience this loss, well actually, that you are continually experiencing it daily. I found the part where you lamented never pulling your older sister’s hair as you were learning to grip most touching. But you know, it’s as if in these writings you are gripping for her and she may just feel it.

      1. Thank you so much.
Also I’d like to make clear that thankfully I’ve never had to experience this. This a complete work of fiction based on something similar that a friend had experienced.

      1. Those are the dolls, right? I’m a little too old for dolls but McDonalds Happy Meals here have little DC characters so I do have two of them (though not the ones I wanted). It’s really cool that the superhero genre is finally branching out to reach little girls as well.

  4. Hello all!

My post about my makeup journey has been my most popular post ever to date, but I don’t write about makeup much. So today I rounded up my 4 favorite beauty bloggers!

Coming up this Thursday, it’s Thanksgiving in the US, so I’ll be posting a photo list of a few of the things I’m thankful for. And then a new book review will be going up soon as well!

Hope you all have a great week!

    1. I really enjoyed your post “On Makeup”, and it wasn’t because it was beauty related. I enjoyed it because you seemed very confident and transparent, and it was refreshing! It made me interested in you as a person!

      1. Thank you very much! Its an extension of my longer posts, but they are a lot of fun because of the randomness of it. They also enable me to write about artists I may not normally have thought to. Thanks!
