First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard. Click on a post’s title to open the individual post. Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to their first post with the community! To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here.

Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other links to keep this space focused on new bloggers. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays by visiting a link or two and leaving the bloggers a supportive like or comment.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused with a few other guidelines:

  • If you share a link, visit a few other bloggers as well. New readers for all!
  • Please don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post — it makes it easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” or “Please look at my blog!” comments. They’re a bit spammy, and it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual blogs.
  • To keep from losing your place, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

      1. Thank you…no rhyme or reason to a method. Basically, it is intuitive. If it resonates, then it is meant to be. Appreciate the feedback…still learning, always.

      1. It is a reflection of all that is. Thank you for the kind and inspiring words. An echo of what I wish to share.

  1. My debut post describes a stunning hill walk over the Helvellyn mountain range in England’s Lake District. En route, it delves back into time and legend to explore the stories associated with the place. We encounter a lost Celtic crown, a ghost army, a reckless romantic artist eulogised for the manner of his death and his dog’s enduring devotion and emerge into the present day with the discovery of a teddy bear with a tragic tale to tell. Hope you enjoy it.

Honestly very nervous, because I’m not sure if I have the capacity to even start writing for the public. I started with this post to introduce people to my current situation and will later expand on my environment, the changes my move has provided and the pros and cons of my decisions. I suppose it sounds really self centred. I won’t argue the fact that it is. I just need an easy subject to begin with and hopefully begin to try other genres. Don’t hesitate with constructive criticism. I know I have much to improve on.

      1. Just a heads up though: you have a blank ‘first post’ that I would advise removing, and take some time to fill out your About page. Readers like to look there to get a better feel for your writing style. 🙂

      1. Thank you! I peeked at yours as well, the disclaimer is well placed hehe. I believe the best stories are experiences provided by those who have been subjected to a hard life. I experienced addiction for years and it’s a comfort to read it from another perspective. I will keep reading!!

      1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you also have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar (on the right) and footer (on the bottom) — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widgets! If you feel like you could use a little more help with the ins and outs of WordPress.com, there’s a really useful “getting started” tutorial here: http://learn.wordpress.com.

    1. Hey,

I think that writing about yourself is a great way to start out. Everyone has different experiences to share, it’s what makes reading interesting. Writings based on experiences are more relatable, raw and down to earth in my opinion. You don’t need to be like Rowling, Martin and Tolkien. Just be yourself.

    2. Loved what you have written on your post alongside the photography, I am sure that you will learn how to ameliorate your site little by little, I am still a blogging novice, but if ever you feel lost in the blogosphere, just reach out for me, I will try to help as much as I can. Happy blogging.

    1. Welcome!

One thing — I noticed you’re using a lot of tags on your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

  3. Hello! I’ve actually been on wordpress for about a month now, however, I was previously under a different alias! My blog is a bit of a mix of parenting and motherhood type stuff; mental health and relationships; sometimes funny, sometimes not so much.

http://wp.me/p82Jy9-ty is a link to my piece about parenting with mental health issues.

    Other stuff also on there!

    Thanks.

      1. Thank you. I’m only going to write about travel/photography in this blog. Someday I might start another blog to do more creative writing.

    1. I found it best to just dive right in, get your first post up, on anything that you feel inspired to write about, and then post it here and the community will be happy to give their thoughts – everyone on here is super helpful!

    1. Hi,

Take it slow. Like you said its a new blog, pump out great content and you’ll got more views. Saw your “4/11/16” post, and your writing was great. I really hoped that today would be a better day for you. Don’t let pass relationships define you or your fiance, take it slow, and things will surely improve with time!
