Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Your post was a good read. I have also heard that your strength is your weakness. Much like what you said, I’ve learned that this is only true when you overdo your strength. I have to pay attention to when I begin going into overdrive on my strength and take it down a notch 🙂 https://gracelead.co

    2. I love that you also mentioned that your greatest weakness can become your greatest strength. It’s hard to believe that when you’re struggling to overcome something, but it’s possible. Your post encouraged me!

      1. Hi! I’m going to give it a proper read tonight to ensure I take it all in! Thanks for taking the time to give your insight though. I was aware when writing it how ignorant I was, but I wanted to share it for people in the UK to look into it further. Thanks again!

      2. Hi – I checked out your blog and looked at several posts about your trip to Iceland. I visited Iceland with my family last year and fell in love.
Iceland is so full of amazing sites that it’s really hard to distill it into short blogs but. . .
I would suggest including more pictures interspersed with your writing instead of big clumps of photos at the end. I’m not a big fan of putting multiple photos into a gallery formation because most people aren’t going to take the time to click through them. Less is more.
Your paragraphs and blog posts in general are a little long. Watch the run-on sentences. Try reading out loud. If you run out of breath before getting to the period – make your sentence shorter.
Please check out my blog if you get a chance and let me know what you think. I’m a newbie and welcome all comments about my writing and blog construction!

      3. Hey!! Thanks so much for the feedback! I definitely need to go back over the Iceland ones. They were so rushed as I was desperately trying to make one every day, then realised it was fruitless.

I’ll definitely give them a clean soon, as people are curious about Iceland and I’m not doing it justice in my blog.

Have you looked at a couple of recent ones? I only ask as I’m wondering if you’re saying exclusively about Iceland or about my other blogs too. Either way, thankyou for giving me some pointers. I’ll check yours out now.

Also, I’m still looking for writers to join a 300 word fortnightly story group. Drop me a line via my contact page if interested and I’ll send full details. The next deadline is Sunday 30th October.

      1. Hello Prachi, yes, I read your story – an interesting idea! From my link above (October index) nos. 7, 8, 12, 22, 35, 45, 46, 49, 56, 96, 98, 99, 100 and 103 all have a supernatural aspect to them!

  2. I wrote a guest post and linked to it from my latest blog post! It’s more essay type format which is kind of a change from mostly focusing on my photos in previous posts! Being the first time I’ve focused mainly on writing I would love any feedback!! I love to check out other blogs too and meet new blogging friends so leave a comment on my blog so I know who you are and I’ll be sure to go back and check out your blog too!!

      1. Yes it is, it is your blog…
We all write stories and the moment we publish it, it becomes our creation. Though we can’t claim anything on the idea but yes if anyone is copying your work, you can go against it and question it…
        Don’t worry, it’s a blog… we all share what we write…
For example, take a look at my blog.
Even at first I felt about the copyright issues but no need to worry, friend…
        😊😊😊
Anything else? Feel free to ask me on my blog…

    1. Hey I like your article! The first thing I notice is the cool picture. It takes up a lot of the post though, which could have been longer or had some more original ideas how to deal with it. I enjoyed it though!:)

    1. Your post is a good read. It left me wondering if your life purpose might be to build up others. Of course, you’ll still need to care for yourself so that you have the health and energy to care for others. BTW, I noticed you have more than 15 tags+categories on this post. That means it won’t show up in the WordPress Reader. If that is important to you, you might want to remove a few tags. https://gracelead.co

  4. Last week I posted a question about blogging stats, and the response was so wonderful and helpful. Thank you to everyone who took the time to help. Part of last week’s conversation, me and @scribbleartie decided that we will try to publish a post on the same day every week. That way our followers would know when to expect to hear from us. As promised, here is my scheduled Monday post!

      1. Thanks for reading 🙂
The problem with used postcards (some of which were dating from the 60s or even earlier,) is that some people have handwriting that even teachers would struggle to read! But yes, i can imagine they’re perhaps the ones which have the most fascinating tales!

  5. Hey guys! Probably, the only reason why I look forward to Mondays is here! Well my blog is all poetry! A lot of them depict my true emotions and experiences at the point of writing! Give it a read! I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! Also any fellow blogger who has poems on his or her blog is more than welcome on sharing the link to such a blog in the comments! I’d love to read them!! Have an amazing week bloggers! Good luck! 🙂

But i don’t think i can compare it to what you showed!! Left a comment and a like. Feel free to check out my page if you care to.

    1. Loved your recent post about family is everything. I strongly believe that too. The post made be realise again how fortunate I am and also who has been my support so far.

    1. I think a good place to start is to check out your stats page. And days where your blog usually has light traffic can be days that you don’t post. Vice versa, days where your blog normally has heavy traffic would be days to focus posting content.

I’m off to check out your blog now 🙂

    2. The fact that you could post that much per week is quite a lot! On the days with no new posts, I tend to just dive into random posts, whether it’s the people I follow, or those who follow me, or even dive randomly into the Daily Prompt (not necessarily posting in the Daily, but still) or here in the Pool (or even in First Friday). I leave a comment here and again, and who knows – people who run into my comments might get interested and give me a visit.

    3. Interesting blog you have.

One way to keep generating traffic is to write posts that encourage shares and reblogs. It also helps to stay connected to the community even on days when you don’t post, by reading other blogs and commenting.

The truth is that posts have a limited visibility in the Reader as in any content stream, so that even great content gets quickly swept under a pile of new posts.

That’s why optimizing content for search engines (to make them easier to find online) and getting them on other social media networks is so important for committed bloggers.

    1. I really like the topic and enjoy your writing. I think breaking into more paragraphs or making a key point bold would help those readers that just stop by and give it a quick skim. Even if they only read a few lines, they may still toss a like or a follow your way! Keep up the good work!

  7. Hey, everyone. I’m thinking of writing some e-books to give out to my readers as fun freebies. I wanted to run some ideas by the community. Mind going to my page and checking them out then telling me what you think?

    1. Hello Book Lover 🙂

Thank you for sharing your post 🙂

I really enjoyed your writing. It is beautiful. You descriptions are so detailed and really capture the beauty of nature so eloquently.

I really loved this part: ‘met me like an old friend and encompassed me in its serene wholeness’…

It would really awesome to be able to see links to your previous posts (you can add a widget on the side bar). It would be great to see more on your page too….maybe more pictures?

You may also want to consider trying different headers. Something that really conveys your theme / message / what you write about would really draw the reader in.

      🙂
