If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard. Click on a post’s title to open the individual post. Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to their first post with the community! To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here.

Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other links to keep this space focused on new bloggers. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays by visiting a link or two and leaving the bloggers a supportive like or comment.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused with a few other guidelines:

  • If you share a link, visit a few other bloggers as well. New readers for all!
  • Please don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post — it makes it easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” or “Please look at my blog!” comments. They’re a bit spammy, and it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual blogs.
  • To keep from losing your place, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Hi. Life is full of surprises my friend. But don’t lose hope. Welcome to the blogging family. It’s fun in here.. and you won’t feel alone. Share your heart out and people will listen and advice and help where they can. Welcome bud. Your post is great.

      Your Friend

      1. I agree with the others. I really enjoyed all three of your posts and your blog looks very nice. The first time I go to a blog I make a priority of going to the about page. I suggest you visit a bunch of blogs and look at their blog pages so you get an idea of the possibilities. And then write your own!

    1. I like the theme you chose! You do need to look at the widgets at the bottom of your home page as they are generic widget. You can customize them or get rid of them completely.

    1. This looks really good! I like your theme (I have the same one haha).

That said, you might want to consider adding some images to your reviews. As readers we tend to revert to our storybook reading, childhood selves who want a story with pictures.

Also think about uploading a profile picture to give your online presence a personal touch. (The default gray silhouette is a little ominous.)

Your writing is great, which is the most important part. Adding some images just encourages your readers to engage.

    1. Love your blog, it’s so wonderfully simple that it really draws you in 🙂

Keep going, I look forward to reading more 🙂 Have you though about adding in a page for all your latest blog posts? Might make them easier to find 🙂

      1. Thanks! That means a lot. I don’t have a page but I do have the 5 most recent in my sidebar (currently only have 3 posts though). & I’m working on adding categories and menus 🙂

  1. Hello! I’m completely new to WordPress and blogging, but have this year become a student blogger for my University college.

As a Physics student, I will of course be chronicling my ideas and experiences based around both science and student life (in the lovely city of Exeter as well as elsewhere), but I also hope to use it as an outlet to improve my writing and creativity by sharing thoughts/interpretations of life in general.

    My first post is here:

      1. Thanks so much. I have an “About” section but maybe I need to move it because you have to click on the little button that looks like three little lines (the menu one). So, it’s probably not easy to find. Thanks ibddietblog.

    1. Hi Irene! I’m a fiction writer too! I read your About page and I love that you’re taking story requests – such a clever way to receive writing prompts and to get your readers involved with the writing process. I like it your style.

I am just about to go out to collect my child from school so I will check out your site this weekend, I promise 🙂

      2. I just had a quick look 🙂 I’ll read some of your work later. I have a degree in Psychology too. Then, I became an accountant. And now I want to be a writer. I think that’s why my Dad is so grey haired.

    1. Welcome!

First off, I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

Second, if you feel like you could use a little more help with the ins and outs of WordPress.com, there’s a really useful “getting started” tutorial here: http://learn.wordpress.com.

  2. A faith based journey and the progression of thought I have found myself forced to reconcile with. Skewed with religious overtones, but hopefully in some way maybe even advantageous for others wanting a glimpse into the mind of a Christian if only for jest, but also for understanding as to the preconceived beliefs many like me have due to involuntary cultural upbringing.

      1. Hi Doreen! Thanks so much for supporting the new folks here as they get started. We’d appreciate it it you could avoid repeated comments with links to your blog; they’re considered a bit spammy. We know that you want more readers, but leaving helpful comments for others is perfect for that — so keep up the awesome support, but without all the links. Thanks!
