First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to some other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments, or repeated comments that simply ask people to visit you. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to leave substantive replies, or to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

      1. Hi Gemma! We’re really glad you’re excited to be here, but per our guidelines, would appreciate it if you didn’t respond to so many comments here with the link to your blog/asking for follows — it’s considered a bit spammy, and we’ll remove duplicate comments. Folks can click on your name to get to your blog; since you’re also leaving folks positive and helpful comments, they’re quite likely to visit you, no asking required!

    1. I enjoyed reading your first post too. Nice job. Did you decide not to use the like option for your posts. I would have “liked” I didn’t see any way to do it. You may have to locate the likes option in the settings.

    2. We have an ‘Off’ this Monday, so we won’t be having a chance to try these out, but we are going to do it on Tuesday, somehow it is not the same on Tuesdays. We just started checking out your blog, hope to see many more interesting posts. http://bit.ly/29ffHQS D check out our blog too, meanwhile, and give us feedback.

      1. Hmm I’m not sure? I’ve never had that happen and I’m new to this site so I haven’t fully navigated everything… Sorry I can’t help

      2. When you’re logged in to WordPress.com and visiting another WordPress.com site, you should always see a little “follow” button in the bottom right corner — if you don’t see it, try scrolling to the top of the page, and that should trigger its return.

    1. As much as we agree with the ‘don’t follow the crowd’ principle, eating cake for breakfast is not very healthy. Just kidding! Nice post and excellent theme chosen for your post, the background and font seem to increase the attractiveness of the blog. Keep blogging!
PS: Do read our posts, we are not spamming the link here, but you can find the link on our Gravatar profile. If not, please do let us know.

    1. Loving the vibe of your blog! So positive and inspiring. It looks great, and I really like the colours and simplicity of the layout. Might just have to give barre a go as well, I love a good workout. Good luck with the blogging!

    1. Have you considered using images with your posts?

It seems that your template has been designed to showcase images, rather than just the grey boxes. May spruce things up and be more inviting for readers.

      1. I agree, a few images here and there have never a post. Also, they should be relevant to the post, have seen people posting really nice, but random pics on their posts. I received this same advice when I started out with my first post and I followed this and saw that the reviews to my blog improved automatically.

      1. Hey Jocelyn,

Have you ever considered not having a static homepage? When I first clicked on it I assumed you hadn’t written any posts, until I spotted the blog button. Just a thought! It helps people access your writing more seamlessly.

    1. I really like the color-scheme and design on the blog! 🙂

So, you have a home page and a blog page, but your posts aren’t under either of them. That could confuse some people.

I also recommend adding a few images here and there, especially on the home and blog pages.

      1. Thank you so much! I went in and changed the links, so they work a little better. I’ll work on getting more images.

    1. You have a very unique style of describing things and this has made your blog also very unique and interesting. You have much to say and your life experiences. What we would like to suggest are the following changes:
      1> Change of theme, perhaps
      2> Paragraphing your posts
      3> Finer proofreading
The theme you have seems to be designed for a photo blog, so it kind of seems odd, but nevertheless, your blog and your idea. So totally up to you.
Happy Blogging and welcome to the bloggers’ world.

    1. And we always thought smoothies were not healthy, thanks a lot for that. We do have a suggestion for this though, have a printable version though for the recipe.

  1. I know that this post is not long ago and quite a mix between music and self-story, but I am happy to have a place to share with you about my feelings. Would love to hear any feedback or conversation. And if you want to show me your beautiful and cool blog, just pull me in!

      1. Sorry that was an accident. I liked your post. seem like your blog will be very motivational to people who don’think they are very good at sports. I’d just say maybe to read through your post again, there are some repeat words. But its good, I’m interested to read more!

    1. Doesn’t feel like your picture and your short prose is disjointed (I’ve seen quite a few that are). I’m a fan of minimalism, so I like your layout. Fonts are a touch small, but then again I’m a nerd with bad eyes.
