First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to some other new faces, and find your first few readers.

If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

      1. Welcome, Marilyn! I loved the sparse functionality of your site– the words and images really let each other stand out. Did you use any tags or categories on your post? Going forward, that’ll really make a difference on regular readers finding older work– and new readers finding you. Good luck!

    1. Your home page makes it sound like there is not really a post called Why I Hate School. I think maybe you are supposed to put an excerpt of the post there. I didn’t realize it was anrticle until I saw the comments on First Friday. I really enjoyed both of your posts.

      1. I thought I had seen a way to do it so went to your blog to check, and see that you figured it out! I’ve never seen a theme like that. It’s a nice one. There will be lots to learn with blogging and you are doing really well.

    2. Hi Phil, I read your post– I have to say, with the number of posts I try to read, a “like” button really really really helps. 🙂 But I like the style and honesty of your work– congrats on starting a new blog!

    1. A “fledgling author”, I like it! 🙂 I checked your Twitter feed and saw the new direction of design you’ve taken on, I think you’re on the right track. 🙂 Good luck on your blogging journey!

    1. Hi!

I really enjoyed your article! I also love the music and films you spoke of, which made the subject matter that I am unfamiliar with on a personal level more relatable and understandable.

I also enjoyed the layout which reads more as a periodical. My OCD approves!

Thanks so much for sharing! 🙂

    2. Truth– I was out of there after the pop up. It looks like a blog that’s been around forever, though, and that’s always a good feel. Good luck on your blogging journey!

    1. Hi!

Based off this: UPLIFT, MOTIVATE, EMPOWER, which I found on your blog, it seems as though you’d like to be an inspiration through your writing. Have you thought about writing about struggles, accomplishments, or even doing photography which would be an inspiration to others?

One thing I read that intrigued me was “the negative committee inside your head” and I couldn’t help but think of Kabbalah and the teachings regarding the Opponent. Just throwing that out there if you are interested in feedback for research topics to accompany your theme.

I think it would be really beneficial for you to spend a little time setting up your widgets and menus as well. You’re off to a great start! Keep it up and please keep sharing your posts. Best of luck. 🙂

    1. Hi!

I read a few of your posts and it’s nice to know I’m not alone in the daily office struggles. This line in particular cracked me up: “Thought about logging on but instead got my phone out and checked Facebook. Holy Shit, someone I vaguely know had checked in at the doctor’s an hour ago, obviously fishing for sympathy, nobody had commented. Good.”

I can’t wait to see what else you share. Will follow!

  1. Although I have blogged for sometime, I started a blog a couple days ago to purely focus on the daily prompts provided by The Daily Post. I’m really wanting to keep myself constantly writing and the prompts really help. I love the challenge of integrating the thoughts and events that happen to me in a day or week with the theme of the prompt.

I have enjoyed reading the other daily prompt posts. Does anyone know if it’s a community that regularly interacts with each other?

Here’s my post from yesterday’s theme of “Countless.”

    Countless Times

Thanks for taking the time to read, and I look forward to checking out some new blogs.

    1. Hello! This thread is reserved to posting your first-ever post, but as we mention in the guidelines, that refers to posts by brand-new bloggers, not the first post you published a couple of years ago. Since you’ve been blogging for a while now, thanks for not sharing your posts here in the future (you’re invited to do that in our Community Pool threads, which start every Monday). 1. I really like your post! I wish I could sew, I think it’s a great idea to reuse old clothing and remake them. You should go ahead with the cloth swap party, I’ve heard it’s fun! I hopefully plan to post with the daily posts’ writing prompts.
