Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and blogging camaraderie.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. I really liked your idea . It’s best to have some pathway to write..I have also started one on my blog .. it’s about blog traffic

    2. Love this! Such a great idea! As well as getting you out there to do stuff on the list, its also stuff you get to write about on your blog which is fab. It means you won’t run out of ideas what to blog about (which I’m struggling with at the moment :/ ) Great work!

      1. Thank you so much! Maybe you should try doing something similar – even a bucket list of 10 things gives you 10 post ideas..

    1. Wow! This is the most ‘true’ thing I’ve read in a long time. My husband and I often say that we don’t just ‘love’ each other, that it’s more than that, but we couldn’t really find the right word. But now I have! Very well written. Well done!

    1. I was in your exact position in high school (and still am!) wanting to write excellent work but smart enough to know that as a young adult, I had a lot left to learn. I was refreshed by your dedication to critique your work, although don’t downplay literary devices that you intentionally used just because other people might not understand their purpose–if you were simplistic on purpose, own and be proud of that!
Writing is the only way you will experience the growth you are looking for: keep at it and practice.
If you can, check out my recent post and tell me what you think! And if you like it enough, perhaps you’ll consider following my blog. (:

      1. Thanks for reaching out and saying something. It’s heartening to find other like-minded writers. And yeah, I’ve been hearing a lot of encouragement in regards to me simple literary devices. I’ll go easier on myself from now on…thank you!
And yes, I’ll definitely check out your blog. Thanks again!

  1. Howdy!

I’ve recently written two very different posts – one that is super personal: https://thisstuffisgolden.com/2016/05/22/how-i-will-turn-sadness-into-something-better/ and one that is to help other bloggers https://thisstuffisgolden.com/2016/05/17/26-prompts-for-a-blogging-writers-block/

Which type do you prefer and why?

I’m making something quite exciting which is completely based around my blog, so whatever feedback you have for me will be greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks lovelies,

    Lauren

    1. Hi Eddy – I really found your post informative and entertaining. Including examples for each composer was also super helpful for a complete noob like me. I especially loved the horror ones haha

      1. Thank you for reading! And looking younger does make it harder but I try to be positive about it as much as I can despite what people say! I hope you can be or are positive about it as well ❤

      2. That must be hard! At times like those I’ve learned that you have to learn and get used to being assertive when you need to be. It’s not fun but necessary sometimes.

  2. A few months ago I had to do a survey for school and asked my readers to complete it. The survey was on TV viewing methods and habits, which I find really interesting as I love TV, and so my most recent post was sharing the results. However, it didn’t get as much feedback as my posts normally do. Is it because it’s kinda scientific and dry? Thoughts and feedback is appreciated!

    1. it was an interesting post. The mix of humor and fact was a bit off-putting. I thought it should be one or the other, not both. But that’s just me. Maybe people simply didn’t know what to respond and kept from doing it.

      1. Thanks for the feedback! I agree that mixing casual writing with factual stuff isn’t the best mix, but I just didn’t want it to seem like the paper I turned in for class! But now I know that it’s not what people want to read, so I can avoid similar posts in the future!

    1. Really enjoyed your post, it read beautifully and effortlessly. I would recommend cleaning up some of the technical errors with punctuation to give it a crisper feel.
I am currently in a semi-long distance relationship, so I can relate. How expression becomes so meaningful, how the world is romanticized when they’re finally with you. How the bond feels so strong when they’re away, but it comes with that feeling of slight sadness that is so hard to shake some days.
Please check out my recent post and if you like it, perhaps you’ll consider following my blog. (:

      1. The only thing that I find odd about the layout is that it has the option to share the post without going to the full version. I think it makes the blog look odd but I don’t know a good adjective to describe it. Other than that, the layout seems nice at least in the mobile version.

And it’s built in layout options.. I can’t customize this *share * option .. thank you for your observation 🙂

    1. I like the theme and the darkness of the page, as that’s pretty different, but I think you really need a header or image up there, especially since your blog topic isn’t anything dark or depressing.

      1. I just added the categories like normal. But then I made sure I wasn’t making them as their own pages, sort of like child pages. If you google it you should be able to get step to step instructions. Thank you so much, it took me a while. Hope you are having a great day ❤

  8. Hi guys,

I’m back writing poetry after some on/off blogging and lacking inspiration, would be great to get some feedback on form/content and what it makes you feel!

Always happy to provide feedback in return of course, just say the word!

    1. The first thing I feel when reading your poetry… as well as your six word stories is “envy”… I am also “fascinated” with your succinct way of expression… (I am so wordy… )… I would love a book… written this way… except maybe 6 words a chapter… Is this your idea or another’s… in any case… story number 19 is my favorite!
