First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, and say hello to some other fresh faces.

If you’re already a few posts into your blog and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

Have a technical question? Try the WordPress.com Support Forums.

Want to learn more about blogging? Take a Blogging U. course.

If a blogger publishes her first post and no one reads it, did it really happen? Of course it did! But when someone does read it, even better. Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community.

To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here; feel free to introduce yourself, and tell us what you hope to blog about. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment. The first recognition a blogger gets is powerful, and you can provide that for someone brand-new!

Need help finding, copying, and pasting your link?

Head to your blog’s home page.

Click on the title of your post to open the individual post page.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar. You can copy by going to the Edit menu in your browser and selecting Copy, or with a keyboard shortcut (Control+C for a PC, Command+C on a Mac).

Paste the URL into a comment here. You can paste by going to the Edit menu in your browser and selecting Paste, or with a keyboard shortcut (Control+V for a PC, Command+V on a Mac).

That’s it!

You can make this a useful space for new bloggers with a few simple guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit one or two other bloggers here. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.
  • Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago. Post should have been published within the last month. We’ll remove older posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Keep comments civil. Even better: visit a blogger and leave your comment directly on their blog!
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you’ve never looked at our Commenting Guidelines, now might be a good time.

      1. I really liked your blog post.. and I really liked “Eat healthy” we all must eat healthy.. Just followed you for new and amazing challenges. One suggestion try some other theme as this theme is making your blog less user-friendly (try Shoreditch theme) rest is awesome..

    1. Looks good so far. I like that you gave a progress report. Sometimes it’s good to see that even though a goal is not achieved when planned, you can still allow it to remain in the queue to work towards. Oddly enough, I didn’t set any goals this year, but this is a good reminder for me to do so. It’s not too late. Thank you for sharing and welcome to the community. 😊

      1. Thanks for the kind words. I too started these a little later than expected. You are right, it is never too late.

    1. Hi, I liked your blog.
Your words are very human, very real. They made me stop and remember everything it is to be alive. I thought it was interesting that each of your entries are in speech marks – presumably you are the speaker? It makes it feel as though every entry is a snapshot of living.

      1. Omg thank you! This means a lot to me, yes I am the speaker and I’m trying to convey a message to my readers through my entries. I read your latest post, you seem to be a really good writer. I hope you would write more. 🙂

    2. Hi and hello to a professional photographer from “one in the making” -my thing is food photography, but all i have learned is from trial n error… If you ever have a couple of mins i will surely appreciate some words on what i have accomplished so far for my page kindfoodlove.com

      1. Hi Caro, Cheers for liking me comment. I have had a look at your work even though I am not a food photographer I reckon I can give some pointers. When I do shoots and I always look for some good inspiration on the internet, the amount of knowledge at your finger tips is amazing these days. Effective use of lighting is paramount regardless the subject you are photographing, really get creative with light sources. Natural sunlight is fantastic but if you do not have this available then using a white light source can replicate this well. Also looking at some of your images I can see slight colour noise which may be down to your ISO being slightly too high. As a rule of thumb I go no higher than ISO 200 and try to keep it at ISO 100 when ever possible to eliminate colour noise completely. Hopefully this helps, let me know if you need any more tips.

      2. Thank you so much for taking the time! I must be honest: my pictures are taken with my iPhone 🙀 I guess that makes me a photographer disgrace!!! 😭 I am saving for a nice camera, I have a semi automatic Nikon however themanual mode is very limited thus the ISO options are low.

      3. No not at all, some incredible photography can be done with an iPhone, so don’t let that deter you, there are dedicated groups that do it. The problem with a camera phone is that it generally does everything for you meaning that it dictates how the images look as apposed to you.

Nikon? – quality make that, that’s what I use. 🙂

    1. I clicked on your name and it sent me to your blog. Are you wanting to link a specific post? I believe that varies depending on what phone you use. You could check WordPress support for that.

    1. I like the theme you chose for your blog. It fits your writing and purpose beautifully.
One thought — and I only say this because people said it to me about my blog — is to have your home page open to your blog. Not everyone is savvy enough to find the menu bar. (Strange, but true.)

      1. Well, this is how I did it, hopefully it will be the same for you: Go to your Admin and click on Settings, then Reading. The first thing should be ‘Front page displays’, and you’ll have a choice of “your latest posts” or “A static page”. Choose “your latest posts.”
I think that’s how it works. You might be able to do it through your Pages, and alter what your “Home” page is.
        Hope that helps!

      1. Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog. I hopped over to your blog, I like what you write. Your posts effectively dispense information. They’re sort of personal, and that makes your way of putting out info really appealing, plus it’s fun to read! 👯

Keep going, you’re doing great ❤️

    1. You have a great start but your page looks almost too simplified. What I mean is; I don’t feel engaged into it. While I understand that simple and negative space is good, it still must be engaging. Maybe if you center justified your blog (instead of left) or added some photos that would help..?

      1. Thank you! Actually I am trying to center the text or justify it, but I can’t. I think it’s because of the theme 😦 Thank you for your advice! I will try to post more photos! 🙂

    2. I actually really enjoyed your first post about the cockroach, it was something that most people can relate to. I do agree with Creative Junkie on the fact that your blog seems a bit plain. Simple is good in some cases, but I know won’t be as engaging to the reader’s eye.

  3. Hello All!

I have about 14 published posts here now, in my 2 week “tenure” at WordPress. Though, technically I’ve only written 3 blogs. The others are past writings that I’ve been moving over from my old LJ for safekeeping.

I’d love for anyone interested to stop by. I’m a wanna-be creative writer who tends to dance on the darker side of my psyche when I’m writing.

A lot of people would call the majority of what I write “poems” but I do not! I (pretentiously?) call myself an “imagery writer”. My goal is not to write a poem, my goal is to use words in a way that paint the picture of a scene in your head as you’re writing. I want you to SEE what I am conveying, not to read it. I don’t give 2 hoots about iambic pentameter or any other sort of technical prose.

Anywhoooooo, Brevity is not my strong suit. I’d be thrilled for anyone to stop by and leave any feedback, critical or positive. and I certainly will be hopping through these comments here to find new and interesting things to read and follow.

    Cheers!

    1. Uh-oh typo, I meant “Paint the picture of a scene in your head as you’re READING”… Sorry folks, obviously new to WordPress, can’t even figure out how to edit my comment 😉

  4. Nice blog! Thoroughly enjoyed the post about the things you’ve “learnt” since becoming a mom. 🙂 I have 5 kiddos and it only gets better from here!

    1. Thank you! Yeah I was unsure whether to use learnt or learned because in Britain both are acceptable. I guess I should have used ‘Learned’ for both British and American English people 🙂 Thanks for your feedback! 5 Children, you’re super woman well done 😀
