Welcome to First Friday!

Did you just click publish for the first time? Congrats, and welcome! Share your handiwork with us.

If you’ve already started blogging and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

Have a technical question? Try the WordPress.com Support Forums.

If a blogger publishes her first post and no one reads it, did it really happen? Of course it did! But when someone does read it, even better. Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community.

To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here; feel free to introduce yourself, and tell us what you hope to blog about. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment. The first recognition a blogger gets is powerful, and you can provide that for someone brand-new!

Need help finding, copying, and pasting your link?

Head to your blog’s home page.

Click on the title of your post to open the individual post page.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar. You can copy by going to the Edit menu in your browser and selecting Copy, or with a keyboard shortcut (Control+C for a PC, Command+C on a Mac).

Paste the URL into a comment here. You can paste by going to the Edit menu in your browser and selecting Paste, or with a keyboard shortcut (Control+V for a PC, Command+V on a Mac).

That’s it!

You can make this a useful space for new bloggers with a few simple guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit one or two other bloggers here. New readers for all!
  • In commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly.
  • Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago. Post should have been published within the last month. We’ll remove older posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.
  • Keep comments civil. Even better: visit a blogger and leave your comment directly on their blog!
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.

    1. I’ve had a look at some of your reviews and previews, and I quite like your writing style. But I think it would be nice if your pieces were longer and analysed the films a little more closely, especially for the reviews, because it makes good reading when someone picks something apart and scrutinises or praises it as best they can, offering their opinion as well as explaining the overall gist of the film. Nonetheless, I think your stuff’s all right, keep going 😉

  1. I didn’t know this existed – I’m kind of excited! I started my blog mid April. I’ve published three posts so far and have lots of ideas in the works. I am blogging about the things we do on our little hobby farm, sort of a modern homesteader blog (cooking, canning, gardening, etc). I hope you enjoy and I would love any feedback you can provide! Here’s yesterday’s post (but be sure to check out all three!): https://myfrugalfarmstead.wordpress.com/2016/05/05/my-new-rhubarb-patch/

    1. I liked your voice. Very interesting story….single parent. That can connect with many people. Keep working on who your audience is. You will want to be seen as the “go to” for …who? I follow someone who is an adoptive parent (that’s the primary connection) and she has other great things that we connect on. How do you want to stand out in a world of mom’s who blog? Very exciting!! And you photos are great!

    1. Hello mommyusage

I think your blog is off to a great start =) I read through your first post and I really loved it.

This may be quite new to you, so you’ll have to ask yourself who your blog audience will be and tailor your posts to them. Like for recipes, your audience could be parents or moms etc. A veteran blogger told me that people want to read your posts from the value you can offer them. Whether it’s a good recipe, advice on caring for children, your experience as a single independent mother and more.. that’s the kind of reading people would want to read.

Then, see how you can make your blog user friendly while retaining your style or personality.

Most important, always ask for feedback and advice.

I remember this blog a while back. It’s about a mother blogging about her family life and doing amazing now. Perhaps that can be you some day =)

I’ve followed you. I’ll be looking forward to see what you’ll write next. Good luck and all the best =)

      2. My pleasure, lady =)

I just started about a month ago myself. I write about philosophy, meaning of life, business, politics, video games, book reviews and more.

The key is to read and learn how to be a good blogger by creating excellent content that will pay for itself, promote your blog (if people don’t know your blog exists, they can’t read your posts, no matter how excellent they are) and more.

You can try r/blogging at Reddit too for advice. See the top posts there. Brilliant and amazing advice for new and veteran bloggers =)

You’re off to a great start, lady. You can do it =)

    2. Nice post stars there. Keep up with your originality and it will help if you use the appropriate tags for your posts. Like this comment would be #opinions #thoughts
Just look at the options on the posts for tags and using the category really helps yourself and others look through your past posts. (Check out my blog if you’d like for ideas).

    3. Oh and pictures might help. And if you don’t want to steal from the web everyday, using a “signature” picture is good because it apparently helps people find or recognize your blog (I have a few myself)

    1. Hello!!! .. why not you translate your work using google translate and add both English and Spanish version in your blog?
I have checked your blog but unable to comment because I don’t know Spanish ..However, I’d suggest you must add some widgets in your side bar.. Best of luck

    2. I agree with Newswire. Your blog is very clean, and I would love to know what you’re writing. Since you seem to be bilingual, it would be a great idea to include the english translation underneath, as the second half of your blog and then watch as the readers flock 😀

    1. Welcome to the blog-o-sphere 🙂 I really like your header photo. Sets the mood for your blog wonderfully. And blogging about feelings & experiences is as good a place as any to start. Good luck!

    2. Hmmm. I read your relationship post and tried to comment but couldn’t find a comment box. I wonder if some setting is off. Welcome to wordpress. I’m glad you decided to blog. I found your post interesting and agree that time heals. A blogging friend says “And this too will pass.” I think that is a helpful phrase too.
