Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. I just wrote a 5 paragraph blog post entitled – I Thought My Father Was God – and it disappeared. Literally. Gone. How is that possible? Can someone tell me how I can retrieve it? I have gone back, looked under drafts, nothing. I’m very frustrated!

    1. I bet you’re frustrated. Can you try to rewrite it before it gets too far away from you — it sounds like a wonderful subject matter. Also — did you check your history? Good luck! Jan

      1. I found it. Don’t ask me how. I can tell you, I was fit to be tied. Something changed in the formatting, and the text didn’t follow. Ugh. So, the good news is I found and published it, the bad news is the images came through as illegible text, not pictures. So I got to post it, picture-less. Thanks for your support!

      3. Jan, I just read a blog post of yours about your relationship with your husband and the fact that you lost your parents. I’m divorced, but losing my parents changed my world. Something we can perhaps someday discuss. In fact, my memoir on this topic is in production! Heavy stuff.

      1. Hi Ben, thanks for responding. This is my third try, I’m not doing well on WordPress today. I did find the post although I know not how. I was unable to insert pictures from my media library however. Any idea why? It showed up as symbols, text and patens.

      2. Sorry to hear about the issues you’ve encountered with the media library today. I tried to reproduce this on my own test site, but without success — I’ve never encountered a similar situation.

        If something like this happens again I’d also recommend taking a screenshot of the botched images — it would help us figure out what’s going on.

  2. Hi, I haven’t tried the ‘pool’ yet, so thought I would jump in now I have just made my first real attempt at putting words to existing music; I’d appreciate feedback; thanks 🙂

    1. If you were composing your post in the Text Editor (rather than the Visual Editor), adding an image shows just the code — but the image will still show in the preview, and definitely in the published post as well. Switching to Visual Editor will let you see the image itself embedded into the draft.

      I visited your blog and it is interesting to note that you seem to be going somewhere with your first post- something similar to a serialised story – which is a great way to build up your audience! Good luck!
      I find your writing style good. I believe you could make it a lot more effective by making your writing more engaging in terms of clarity and better formation of sentences. You word choice is simple, which makes your writing palpable. I think readers will be a lot more intrigued if you could make your writing, say, a lot more personalised.  Hope this helped.     1. Hi – I was struck by a lot of lovely vivid phrases in your writing – “I could have painted the entire globe with money” is one that jumped out at me.

      The more you write, the more the words you don’t need will fall away. Then the words that shine will have room to shine all the more brightly.

  12. @Ben Huberman I just had an observation to make. The “likes” on a post seem to determine its popularity while the same importance is not given to the comments and discussion it generates. Isn’t this anomalous? I got this impression from the “trophy” section which counts and awards trophies based only on the likes.

    Why is it so?

    Its been food for thought for me, so decided to share it….
