Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. I recently looked back at my time in blogging, what changed and what’s still the same was really interesting to me. Why do I stil choose to bare my soul in writing? I’d appreciate it if you could take sometime to read my thoughts here: https://thoughtsofasociallyanxiousextrovert.wordpress.com/2016/04/22/baring-your-soul-in-writing/. Thank you so much! I wouldn’t mind having a look at your blog as well, it would be my pleasure. I hope you have a lovely day head of you!

    1. It’s true, that new car smell kind of wears off after a while. But you say you love writing so that is half the battle. Give yourself a break. Don’t be so hard on yourself for not being shiny every day. I totally understand though. I went a long time only writing once in a while. It just didn’t read how I wanted it to be and I got tired of it.

For me it helped to write about everything and not worry about how it sounded. You don’t have to show every word and sometimes in the process of just writing your moments, you find a nugget of gold in there to share with others. Even the feelings you are going through are poetic and well said in this piece.

You said, ” I feel slightly trapped with something I love very much but I can’t clasp it at all.”

That’s awesome! I’ve felt that way so often…add a few lines and divide it up pretty and it’s a poem that would touch someone else who feels as you do.

Allbest as you get past this slump. I followed your blog as I see we have a few things in common.

      1. I think your example with the new car smell is the perfect way to put my dilemma. I believe I’m hard on myself because I was on a roller coaster that only went up and all of a sudden I was pretty much free falling down out of the blue. Thank you so much for your advice, I’ll try doing that as well and thank you for complimenting my writing, it really helped set me at ease with everything. I’ve always wanted to have a go at poetry and now I’m really considering it!
Again, thank you so much for your everything, you’re far too kind.

    2. One can really tell how sincere you are in your writing.

That, and you have a good heart. Really love your blog so far and you are doing a good job maintaining it so don’t worry lol!

Your writing is infused with your soul. That’s my way of telling you not to change your writing style. Everything seems to be in order so change isn’t necessary, in my opinion anyway!

Things being the same aren’t necessarily a bad thing, no? 😉

Talk again bud! Hope this helped in anyway!

      1. Thank you for your lovely comment, that was very nice of you 🙂 I had a look through your blog and I did enjoy the content very much. I have a few comments on the header image. The image itself is beautiful but combined with the text colors and the small icon on, it’s a little too much on the eyes. PLENTY OF EVERYTHING FOR EVERYONE! for example is in a very dull gray color.

      1. I had a look through your blog, I personally would appreciate more color from a header image or something like that in the side bar, it seems a little too bare for me. I really enjoyed skimming through your blog though, keep up the good work, you’re doing great! Thank you for all your great comments with me as well 🙂

    1. HI! I left a question on your blog. I love the golden theme. Another question: Why gold? Just curious? Maybe you’d like to check out my blog. https://coellefornia.me I’d love to know what you liked or not. Thanks and happy anniversary! (My blog was actually a year old, but I didn’t even think about celebrating, lol) It’s a great idea!

    1. Great job for someone who is just starting out 🙂 Maybe add a subheading under your blog name so it’s easier to understand that this is a fashion/style blog without diving in? Just an idea, good luck with everything!

    2. I read your post. There are some excellent tips there, especially for a blogging newbie. I added several additional tips that have greatly increased the engagement on my blog of just under three months.

The main “must have” for me is a responsive blog theme. Visitors use a number of screens. I would suspect the smaller phone screen is the most used nowadays.

If the blog doesn’t work on this screen (check it), I would encourage the blogger to shop a more responsive theme. There are loads of them for WordPress.com blogs. Just be sure the one you choose doesn’t say “Self-Hosted” only!

    1. I enjoyed reading your article. One thought I had when I saw the picture of you, friend, artist is using his own words. Let him be the speaker instead of paraphrasing what he said.

In my opinion, this dialogue would make your article even more relatable. I did listen to his music. I can tell you were thrilled to receive this birthday surprise!

Your writing and personality is very attracting. It has a certain style and flair which I really enjoy reading. Keep it that way bud. Glad to have found you and your blog.

Just saw your blog. Got some Pretty cool stuff there 😉
Anywho, is it me or there’s no “Archives” in your blog? Would be useful to add one so that your followers or readers can refer back to your older content with ease. Talk at your blog bud!

      1. heeyy Benjamin!
Thanks for reading my stuff:) Glad you liked it! I just checked..my blog has “archives”. Were you viewing at the mobile version of my site? A friend pointed out sometime ago that the archives and a few other sections don’t show up in that version. I think there is no fix for that. Been thinking about changing theme..that might help.
I wanted to read your stuff, but didn’t find any post on your blog.
Glad to have found a new bud in the blogging world.
        Your pal,
        Kah-tee-ja!

      2. Ah indeed I was viewing via mobile because I was out and working lol. Wouldn’t worry too much about that though since it’s just the mobile version that lacks it. Perhaps you can add a little note somewhere that indicates for archives, use the desktop view on readers’ browser.

Perhaps at your “About Me” page where everyone would SURELY go to first lol!

Anywho, if you are still interested to, feel free to check it out my blog here 😉

I wonder…can you put Kansas directly on your blog??? There’s a clear message on there. Yes…I probably will hear the guitar for the rest of the day.

You are giving them the opportunity to shine some light on their lives, and since finding “happiness” seems to be huge right now, hooray for Dope Life!

      1. Is there some way for you to go into your blog’s dashboard, and do a look-see? I don’t want to worry you, but it may cost valuable site visitors, likes, and comments. Just a mention. I’d love to visit, but won’t open my browser to chaos. Highest and Best!

Did I overlook it? It’s typically the page site visitors flock to; at least they do on my blog. Would love to read up on more About Hannah. Just a mention!

    1. Hi Lisa,
I have read through your blog – well started to and I like that you are so honest about the emotions are you feeling with regards to losing your father. I think it’s amazing that you feel able to share this with the world and as a fellow member of the “dead father” club – it felt comforting to know that I wasn’t the only one feeling a range of emotions at that time.

      Well done, keep going.

Free feel to check mine out and suggestions are welcome xx

It was originally created for a class, but I began to really enjoy it and want to keep it going. Here’s the link if you are interested. Any feedback is welcomed, as I am still pretty new to WordPress.
