Did You Miss This? Creating Custom Email Addresses

Did you know you can create a custom email to go with your custom domain, and have it forward anywhere you’d like? (And it’s free!)

It can be tough to keep up publishing your blog, engaging with the blogging community, and staying on top of all the tools WordPress.com offers to make blogging easier (to say nothing about the parts of your life lived outside the blogosphere). To help, we’ll highlight the best things you might have missed from The WordPress.com Blog.

Up today? Email forwarding. Did you know that those of you with custom domains can easily set up a custom email address and have it forward anywhere you’d like? Did you know you can have five separate custom addresses? And that it’s free?:

Now, your custom domain is not just for your blog. Our new Email Forwarding feature lets you use your custom domain in an email address, so your email address can be just as memorable and unique as your blog. All your mail will be forwarded to the email address you choose.

To get started, go to Store → My Domains in your dashboard. If you already have a custom domain, you’ll see an Edit Domains link next to it. Click that, and then go to the Email tab. (If you don’t have a domain yet, you can add one now from the same page.)

Enter the new email address you want to create in the first field, and the destination email address in the second field. This way, instead of setting up a new email service, you can keep reading and writing your email like you always did. Any email sent to your new address will arrive at the address you specify.

When you started myawesomesite.com, you might have set up a free email address like myawesomesite@gmail.com. Now, you can create the address myname@myawesomesite.com, and have it forward to your Gmail account — you get the slick custom email address, but get to use your same email client you’re used to.

  5. This is confusing me now… Does that mean we can create emails now directly via wp.com? Some time ago I did do it via zohomail. This is not necessary anymore?

    1. This is just email forwarding — email would still be received/sent by your personal email account. You can also set up a free-standing custom email address that can send/receive on its own, and that’s what you’re using zoho for.

  11. Hi. I thought I signed up for the 201? Was wondering if I could make sure I’m doing that one and not the 101, as i got an email saying I was doing the 101? Thanks!

  13. Is anyone else finding that if they click the ’email’ tab in their My Domain section it does nothing? Everything else changes the page but not that one. Did I not do something first maybe?

  14. Hello! Im sorry my comment here is irrelevant. But I had registered for the 101 (zero-to-hero)challenge and ive received mails that direct me to the 201 challenge. Can something be done about it?

  22. I’m glad you talk about your new features from time to time. It seems there are always new things that get put on behind the scenes that we never know about because some of us don’t go into our settings, etc., very often since our blogs are set the way we want them to be. And even though I follow this blog, I’m still missing all these announcements. Thanks!
