Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    2. Hi there, just checked out your post and I don’t mean to be a grammar nazi but the third sentence in didn’t make sense to me as well as the second to last sentence. I’m guessing there was a grammatical error?? Over all its a great post and I couldn’t agree more with making your blog more personal to match your style rather than conforming to the masses.

    3. Totally agree! I hate pop-ups and love read more tags. I also found a few grammatical issues as mentioned already in this thread.

    4. Great article. I shared on LinkedIn and Twitter. My only point of critique is a longish sentence in your intro might have worked better as two sentences. Otherwise, good content.

  1. Hey all! Hope you had a great weekend!

Recently, I wrote a post about dealing with the pressure to date in high school. I would love to hear what you think about the issue. Here’s the link: https://thegoldenlands.wordpress.com/2016/04/08/satisfying-the-urge-for-teen-romance/

Also, I redid the way my blog looks; if you haven’t already checked it out, please tell me what you think of the layout and content of my blog.

Thanks so much in advance! If there’s anything I can do to return the favor, please let me know!

    1. I think it was brave of you to write so openly about this topic. I did see the comment about it being long-winded. I’ll admit I skipped a few sentences, not because of the writing but simply because I was short on time and wanted to get through it quickly. I can totally relate because I get carried away with words too and it is always a struggle for me to be succinct. I wish you luck in striking a comfortable balance.

  3. Hi there,

It has been a couple of weeks, but we’ve finally managed to find time to put together a couple more posts. Skiing in Switzerland is the most recent (and the link below) but there are a few other new adventures up as well.

Zurich, and some skiing at Laax

Any feedback or tips will definitely be appreciated, and of course reciprocated, and if you’ve got a travel blog as well – drop a link below, I’d love to see it.

Always good to see everyone out having fun on a Monday.

    Take care,

  4. Hello! I’m typing up all my teenage diaries from the 1990s and the time has come to introduce the Snogging Code to my blog so I’ve added it as another page. It’s pushed the headings onto 2 rows which I guess is ok but I was trying to keep them to a minimum. How many headings do you have? Do you prefer other blogs to have fewer headings or is it easier to find what you want when it’s all on display?

Also, someone else’s comment here last week got me thinking… Is better to have a home page as a grid rather than a stream of posts? I imagine it’s easier to pick out a post to read that way.

    Thanks,
    Tess x

    1. Hi! I like the two lines, I like the choices I’ve got to navigate around with the different headings and I think the formatting looks great still. I only have two right now – but I’m only three posts in and eventually planning on doing something with more headings but not sure what yet!!

    2. An option to the grid idea is to change your settings so that only a few lines of each post show and readers have to click on continue to read the full post. The advantage is that it is easier to scroll through your stream of posts to find ones of most interest. Your 2 rows of headings don’t bother me. Mine site has 2 rows as well. http://gracelead.co

      1. No it isn’t ridiculous at all!
I use the Pique theme(it’s free) which has panels, the different pages you say. I had to create two pages for each topic, lets say books.
I made two pages one named books and another being books I reviewed. I assigned the first panel to books. (The page’s featured image is the one in the background and the content of that page is yet again the same picture center aligned. This picture is linked to the page Books I reviewed)
So, when you click on the picture, you go directly to the page of the books I reviewed.
I did the same thing for each panel!
It feels good when someone asks this stuff!
        Thank you yet again!

Or a drop-down box of categories? I think it’d help someone who came to your blog without a specific post in mind:)
