Would you ever fight over a sneaker?

In Seattle, WA, several fights broke out at stores selling the new Air Jordan sneaker. Like for many holiday sales, people began lining up the day before to reserve as spot and ensure they got the sneakers.

Would you ever wait in line overnight for something? If so, what?

  3. No Way!…When my son wanted these when he was 10 years old…he was told, “You have to save at least half of the money for them”…and he did!…but, I couldn’t and wouldn’t buy them then or now…Kids can put pressure on us to do ridiculous things…but, THIS seems to be more like an adult problem…

    Something is seriously wrong with people if they think Christmas can be ruined if they do not get “product must have for this year”. Some people need perspective.

  5. Absolutely. It is the most important cause that I can think of. I feel extremely passionate about my foot wear and no one can stop me. Not even your face. The Middle East has nothing on this! Finally- some thing I can believe in. I feel alive again!

  6. Stay overnight, no way, that also for sneaker, even if it’s for free. I have better things to do to instead of in the queue all night. What a waste of time?? Which is very precious these days and I would utilize it if ever have to remain awake whole night for better reasons definitely I will but not for sneakers.

  7. What have humans become? It is a thing, it does not give love, care or even give hope. IT IS A THING. A STUPID THING and people have nothing better to do than fight for it. What a boring life they lead.

  8. I’m with Pigeon Heart. Don’t get between me and something my feet want. The feet want what the feet want, everyone knows that.

    I will break as many bodies as I must, and then climb over them to reach my kicks. I am a shopping mall warrior.

  10. Wait in line all night for a pair of shoes? No. But I did wait in line all night to get tickets for Indiana University basketball postseason tournament tickets many years ago…was it worth it? Hmm….well, since we won, yeah!

  12. Never, and not for those $180 Air Jordan’s either… I would be scared to wear them in public in case someone decides they need them more than I do. Yikes! 😦

  13. Not a fan of crowd and I am not that crazy for a pair of shoes.

    The only thing I would fight for if it’s an actual life on the line, I will push my way in to get what needs to be done.

  14. No. I’m not a shopper and I definitely don’t camp out waiting to be the first to buy something. I’ll wait and if I don’t get it, then it wasn’t meant for me to have.

  15. I’m sorry, but to fight over a pair of sneakers is completely ridiculous and sad. I have nothing against people actively seeking to purchase this or that item, but to get into a fight over a pair of sneakers is stepping over the line in my book.

  16. No, I wouldn’t fight… nor would I stay overnight in a line for anything. I don’t love brand names THAT much. If you let a pair of sneakers define who you are, I think you might have to re-check your priorities. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with shelling out 180 bucks for a pair of sneakers because that’s your prerogative… but if you’re going to take someone down for them, well… that’s another story.

  17. This year people have been injured in fights and by pepper spray while waiting in line during what is supposed to be the season of giving…hmmm…makes me wonder what our children are learning when they see this…

  18. I would wait in line if a store would sell my dream road bike at a price which I can afford. But an overprized $180 pair of sneakers? I wouldnt even wait for them over night if they would give them away for free!

  20. LOL! When I saw your headline for this story in my email it brought to mind me and my brother fighting as kids. Heheheh we fought over SMALLER THINGS even. Then I read the rest. NO WAY! I’d be so ashamed of myself and downright upset if I were ever involved in such a ruckus.

I remember back in the “disco days”, my mantra was I would NEVER stand in line to get into a club… I can’t understand the mentality thay would cause soemone to stand in line for new product or to be the first one to buy an item. I have to say though, the marketing folks have finally won. With the internet and 24/7 news cycle, (when did we make that up???), Many of us have REALLY bought into the flash mob mindset. Does anyone remember when we read the book 1984 in High School? We all laughed and thought, this will NEVER happen. Well, just look around, bit by bit, we are moving closer and coser to that kind of world. SCARY!!!!

  23. The only thing I would wait overnight for is concert tickets for Prince or Outkast. And that will still be a big “MIGHT”. I find it amazing to hear about people camping out overnight for shoes, tvs, and etc. Then have the nerve to start fighting like kids. I know people want what they want but seriously people will it kill you to wait. The mentality of people is getting crazy. Can the same people camp out overnight to make a change in our government or for education?

Ok…Honestly, I wouldn’t BUT…considering that there were only limited pairs being sold and these were a “re-release” of the famous sneakers that won a Championship ring for the Bulls…I would say, “Heeeeeeellllllllllzzzzz YEAH!” The “crazy” people you’re all naming probably have the sense to flip the “$180” (*yes…that was intentional folks, Lol!) and make a profit off these sneakers. Air Jordans have ALWAYS been a coveted item for sports enthusiasts so considering the “downturn” in the economy, it’s an INVESTMENT! So all you “naysayers” better change your tune to “I Believe I Can Fly” because it’s not going to get any less superficial than what it is. Call it what it is…an opportunity! Michael Jordan knows how to play the game 😉

  25. My brother got himself a pair – arrived at the mall, walked into Footlocker, found his size, tried it on, bought it and left. We live in NZ so we had none of that “craziness” – just a small group of people (two people had decided to come early that morning and wait outside the mall) coming into the store, picking out a pair, trying it on etc. It was just like any other day of shopping really.

  26. You can pre-order on the internet, right? I would never do such a ridiculous display of shallowness over a pair of shoes. There are a lot of shoes out there, and if you just can’t/don’t get one, its probably not for you.
