What was the best book or movie of the year? Think of all the books you read, or movies you saw, and write a review of your favorite (or favorites).

Is it totally wrong to say my own enovel, Coconut Wireless? Yes thought so, but I enjoyed the memory trip rereading about life, love and gossip in Solomon Islands (think Guadalcanal and WW2 fighting). Less indulgent comments by me at http://homemadekids.wordpress.com Nicola

Best book? I read To Kill a Mockingbird every summer, so even though it’s my favorite, that doesn’t seem to be in the spirit of this post. So I shall choose The Infernals, by John Connolly.
Best movie? I liked Rise of the Planet of the Apes, as well as Captain America. Being a comic book nerd, I’d go with the Captain, if I had to choose only one.

best book I read this year. it was really a good one.
it surely is heart trending. an easy read – yet forces you to think. think really deep. and it tells us of a life we (at least i) cannot even imagine. living with one piece of clothing. moving house with the season. barely enough to eat. such oppression for women. such oppression for men too. samira says the men are not free either. all are confined in a world that dictates that they have to live a certain way to keep up to the society’s expectation. no one is free. not a single person 😦

Best book of the year.. okay, I am going to have to go back to a classic one to answer this question. My answer would have to be “The Catcher in the Rye.” I can think of only a handful of other books that have left such an impression in my life, and because of that, I would say that it is not only the best book of the year, but for me of all time, making it something that I’d recommend every year.

I took a bunny trail approach to this prompt, and I share the most surprised 5 movies I SAW in 2011 (not, perhaps, produced in 2011). There are some gems here, if you’re trying to fill your Netflix queue… http://minnesotatransplant.wordpress.com/2011/12/07/top-5-movie-surprises-of-2011/

About a month ago I watched The Help and I’ve kept thinking about it ever since as I liked the way the plot sends a message about fairness and how it’s important to work everyday to achieve a sense of completeness through getting to really know who we are and what we’re capable of doing. Here’s the post a wrote back then: http://wp.me/p10iHd-8e 😀

I’m very late to this party, but the best book I read this year was “The Hunger Games”. It’s been a long time since I read a book that I couldn’t put down. I also thoroughly enjoyed “Room” – uniquely written and haunting.
